4th Years
This week was the second week of Maymester. In the morning Learners have the option to attend Film Literacy, Local Government, Fitness, or Service Learning. Learners in Film Literacy analyzed the relationship between cinematography and the hero's journey as well as explored the elements of unique settings. In Local Government, teams interpreted various episodes of the satire, Parks and Recreation. They also presented their analyses of various characters, focusing on their political ideologies. In Fitness the Learners were introduced to various self-defense strategies. In Service Learning Learners have begun school and district wide projects. These seniors were able to organize the Tales of the Titans event, a series of middle school visits to inform perspective students about the Academy.
In the afternoon Learners were able to participate in the following classes: Conspiracy Theories, Conflict Resolution, Development Time, or Wacky Racers. Teams, in Conspiracy Theories, presented products based off of unrealistic science. This experience allowed the Learners to understand how scientific theories can be manipulated to promote a product or concept. In Conflict Resolution Learners reflected upon conflicts at the school level. Groups, in Wacky Racers, tested their miniature race cars and began construction of the race track. During Development Time Learners continued developing art and technology artifacts. The experiences from this week will benefit the Learners in the future.
