MHS Parents and Students,
DIGITAL STUDENTS RETURN OF MATERIALS
STUDENT SCHEDULES FOR THIS SPRING
When classes start on January 5th, we will be on a stagger start, and some students will first meet their teachers digitally. All information for starting classes will be posted on each teacher's Canvas page for students.
Materials for Digital Students will be available for pick up January 4th from 4-6pm.
An update in January will share the schedule for January 5-8th.
Friday, January 8, 2021 will be the last day to request a schedule change.
Clarifying Quarantine Times with COVID
- Close contact quarantine is now only 10 days, not 14.
- The 10 day quarantine requirement can be shortened with the following stipulations:
- A student must receive a negative result from a PCR test, not a rapid test.
- The test must be taken on Day 6 of the quarantine time frame or later.
- The negative test allows a student to return to school on Day 8 of the quarantine time. Basically, a negative test will allow a student back two days sooner, depending on the length of time it takes to receive the test results.
- Documentation of the negative test results will be required to re-enter school early and should be provided to the school nurse before a student attends classes.
We know that asking a student to quarantine impacts extracurricular obligations, work obligations, and family plans. Thank you for your continued support as we follow the TDOH guidelines this upcoming semester.

Rising Sophomore Parent Meeting - Save the date!
Attention seniors and senior parents: the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) is hosting a statewide virtual FAFSA help session on December 16, 2020 from 5-8pm. If you need assistance with completing the FAFSA or have questions, feel free to attend the event. You must register to receive the link to the session. To register, click on the following link: https://bit.ly/TSACFAFSAHELP. You may also contact the outreach team anytime by emailing fafsa.help@tn.gov or calling 615-350-8668. In order to remain eligible for the TN Promise Scholarship, families MUST complete the FAFSA by February 1, 2021. If you have any questions or have problems registering, please contact Eric Farmer at either eric.farmer@tn.gov or 423.326.7198.
MHS will host FAFSA completion events on January 13 and 14. Due to COVID-19, the event will be virtual ONLY. Mark your calendars for this date with more details to follow in the coming weeks.
MHS will administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test January 19, 2021. ASVAB results offer access to excellent career exploration information that can assist students in finding a career that matches their strengths. Participation in the ASVAB does not obligate a student to talk with a military recruiter or consider a military career. If your child would like the take the ASVAB, the registration link is housed on the Daily Announcements webpage and in Canvas. The deadline to register is January 15.
There are a few scholarships with deadlines at the end of December including the Cirkled In "No Sweat" Scholarship, the TNConnect Credit Union Scholarship, and the PB and J Scholarship. Please refer to the Scholarship page on the MHS School Counseling Canvas site for more information.
Attention parents of current sophomores and juniors. Course registration for the 2021-22 school year will take place in February and early March. Stay tuned! More details to follow!
