Cowboys
Emma Nelson
American Cowboys adopted much from the Mexican Vaquero's. They adopted their clothes gear and even their language.
Clothing-
- Ten-gallon hats- shaded their eyes, acted as a pillow and was a water pail.
- Leather chaps- protected their legs from cacti and sage brush.
- Pointed toe boots- slipped easily into stirrups.
- Ponchos- provided protection from the rain and cold.
Gear-
- Saddle with a horn- this innovation made everything easier. European saddles did not have horns.
- La riata or lariat- especially helped rope calves during roundup.
