Weekly Updates

Team Sequoia,

Welcome back to school and the official count down to Spring Break is now at Five Days! I am hoping everyone has plans to relax and rest up for our final ten weeks of the year.

I want to give all teachers who have covered classes recently a big thank-you for helping out as we have been short subs on several occasions. Just a quick reminder to put your sub requests in early if you know you are going to be out.

We had to postpone our CTE campus walk from last Monday, but we will be at it again tomorrow at 9am, visiting classrooms on our "Tech Walk".

We are hiring at least 7 new staff members for the 2016-2017 school year. The district personnel office has done a great job of moving their timelines forward so we can begin talking to voluntary transfers this week. We will be looking to have teachers serve on interview panels so stay tuned.

Reminder that this Wednesday, we have Teacher Appreciation Lunch at 1:15 in C3, followed by PLC Meetings, then Committee meetings at 2:10. We will excuse all the students during the lunch so I can give a quick overview of our student discipline case from last week.

Here are the updates for the week.

Holocaust Speaker:

Thanks to all of the 8th grade teachers for bringing students to hear our speaker Marion Blumenthal Lazan last week. We are hopeful that we can bring her back every year as her message of survival and determination was very powerful for everyone in the room.

Instructional Rounds:

We are now three rounds groups down with only two remaining this week Monday, March 21st and Tuesday, March 22nd. I am enjoying hearing all the great comments from this peer-peer learning activity and look forward to keeping this as part of our on-going staff development during the year. Thanks again to Will, Ernie, Michelle, Susan and Eliza for your leadership of our rounds process.

AVID:

We now have a full team of eight committed to our AVID training in June. Thanks to all who volunteered to attend the training.

Shared Folder on Google Drive:

We are continuing to build our SMS Staff Resource Folder on Google Drive. Please feel free to add to it, or let me know if there is anything that you would like to have electronic access too.
