ROCORI SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER 1, 2022
TRIMESTER 2/TERM 3 BEGINS MONDAY, DEC. 5TH
TRIMESTER 2 SCHEDULES CAN BE VIEWED ON SKYWARD
SCHOOL-HOME CONNECTIONS
At ROCORI Secondary we are continuing to try and find the best system possible to make meaningful connections between school and home. Teachers will be reaching out during the trimester with progress reports and notes about your student. We want all families to be aware that if a meeting with your teacher is helpful in person, virtually or via a phone call, we are happy to schedule them as requested throughout the year.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Students live in a world that is significantly more difficult to navigate than the one many of us parents grew up in. That is largely due to the prevalence of social media. This week we had some disturbances and concern that came from something posted on Snap Chat. We try hard to let students know that their words have consequences, whether posted or said. We also realize how hard that would have been to navigate in middle school or high school in the brief second it takes to post something. We don’t want a decision made by a student in a brief second to have a lifelong impact because they put it on social media, and we see it happen far too often.
Please talk to your students about social media use and please consider monitoring what is on their phone. This is a good resource by WebMd on talking to your students about social media.
ATTENTION SENIORS AND PARENTS
There are still a few students missing their graduation orders. This included their diploma order, gown reservation and cap and tassel order.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
As we approach the inevitability of Minnesota Winter approaching, we want to communicate our inclement weather protocols. Because of the potential for a regularly scheduled day to become an unplanned E-learning day as weather dictates, we would encourage students to bring MacBooks to and from school.
If the Superintendent cancels schools due to inclement weather, families will receive a skyward alert by 6:00 am informing them the day is an E-Learning Day. Staff will have items placed on Schoology at 8:30 am. High School students will have approximately 30 minutes of engaged time for each class period and middle school students will have approximately 20 minutes of engaged time for each class period on inclement weather days. Staff will be available to respond to email and Schoology messages between 9:00 am – 2:00 pm on inclement learning days.
Applications for Educational Benefits (Free/reduced lunch) can be found on this site. We encourage all families to complete this application. Any questions, contact barkerc@rocori.k12.mn.us
