HOME ACCESS CENTER (HAC)
Please check Home Access Center (HAC) on a regular basis to review your child’s grades. Alerts can be set up so that you are notified if their grade has dropped.
NHI (Not Handed In)
If your child fails a test with a 69 or below, their teacher will contact you or you should contact them, regarding them having recovery for the test. The recovery for the test must take place in order to help prevent your child from failing that particular class. HAC http://www.fultonschools.org/en/sp/Pages/default.aspx

ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS
READING
Reading classes have been analyzing the short story, “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut. It tells of a futuristic society in which equality has been reached in the United States with mixed results. Please have your child tell you about the story. We are going to be pairing “Harrison Bergeron” with some nonfiction articles about some debatable medical breakthroughs such as genetic editing. Students have a new vocabulary list and will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday, February 9th.
Please remember to encourage reading in your home. Students should be reading 30 minutes each day as their only homework for this class.

SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working through our Middle East History unit and will discuss US presence and interest in the Middle East this week and next week. Our unit test is scheduled for Friday, 2/16 and will cover the partitioning of the Middle East following World War I, the establishment of the modern state of Israel, land and religion as reasons for continuing conflict, the Persian Gulf War, and the US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Then, we will begin our Africa history unit. Thanks for your continued support!
WORLD LANGUAGES
FRENCH
Dear Parents,
AMMS is pleased to be hosting Linguapalooza 2018, the annual middle school world language speaking competition, on Saturday, February 24, 2018. This is one of the highlights of the school year. Several hundred middle school students will be taking part in the event to showcase their skills in the different world languages we offer in the county.
As hosts we are looking forward to providing a great environment for students, judges and parents to enjoy. We will be relying heavily in our student volunteers from our school who will be greeters and runners. Their job will include accompanying interviewees to their stations, ensuring that score sheets are submitted, certificates printed and delivered for the announcement.
Student volunteers are expected to arrive at school by 7am and will be released no later than noon. They will receive training ahead of time to familiarize them with their specific duties and answer any questions they may have.
We sincerely appreciate them giving up their time and we thank you in advance for supporting the World Language Department.
Sincerely,
Merci beaucoup,
Mesdames Sudu et Blackburn
LATIN
We are finishing up our unit about Roman beliefs about death and the afterlife. On February 2nd, we are having a test on this current unit.
Next week, we will begin our unit on the gladiators! Here are the pertinent dates relating to this unit (tenatively of course!):
- Thursday, Feb. 8 – Stage 8 Vocab Quiz
- Friday, Feb. 16 – Language Concepts Quiz
- Thursday, Feb. 22 – Stage 8 Test
In addition to our study on the gladiators, we will also discuss plural direct objects, vocabulary, and English words deriving from Latin.
If you have any questions about the class or your child, please feel free to email me at mcelroyk@fultonschools.org
SPANISH
This weeks we will be practicing and studying the verb estar. Please have your student study each night for 10-15 min. Materials will be posted on google classroom, so please check daily.
Thanks!

AMMS INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
AMMS Instructional Technology is working to build a Virtual Reality Lab to provide these experiences for all Autrey Mill students. Through your donations, you will be providing our students at AMMS with cutting edge opportunities and preparing our students for the jobs of tomorrow.
STUDENT HEADPHONES/EARBUDS
Our classrooms are equipped with desktop computers and student personal iPads, which will be used throughout the school day integrating technology into the curriculum and providing additional personalized learning opportunities for our students. In order to work independently on these devices and not be disruptive to others, students need to use earphones. We would like to ensure that each child has their own set of headphones or earbuds for their individual use. We are committed to provide students with their classroom supply needs, but knowing that the use of specific headphones or earbuds can be very personal, if you are able, please provide your child with a set of headphones or earbuds. We wouldn’t want any of the students to miss out on any multi-sensory learning experiences.
