Going Dutch!

The very popular annual team building day with a visiting Dutch school took place at Cosmeston with pupils in Years 6-9 taking part. Congratulations to Mia and Molly's team who completed the 75 minute orienteering course in 55 minutes!

Nursery and reception's garden centre and flower shop

The children in the nursery and reception classes began the new term with a trip to Ikea to choose artificial flowers for the 'garden centre' and 'flower shop' which will be set up in the classrooms this term. They also bought plants for the school gardens and gardening tools to work with. There was great excitement as the children tried to name all the flowers and plants on sale . . ..and even more excitement when they all had an ice-cream! After a busy shopping spree, the children played in the park area before returning to school with a bus full of purchases.

Year 4 friction investigation

Last week in science we were trying to find out if different surfaces had high or low friction. We tried to move a shoe along each surface. We used a Newton meter to see how much force it took to move the shoe. Grass had high friction and the tiles had low friction.

Golf lessons

The' Westbourne Golfers' resumed lessons with their professional coach this week and were lucky enough to enjoy some glorious sunshine too.

After practising all through the cold winter months in windcheeters and hats, the pupils were delighted to be able to go out onto the putting green in shirt sleeves again.

The golfers are working hard at improving their game in preparation for the Junior Golf Championship which takes place on 19th June.

If there are any pupils who wish to take up golf lessons (4.15 - 5.15 p.m every Thursday at St. Andrew's Major Club) or enter themselves for the competition, please contact Mrs. Gibson in the Junior School.

On top of South Wales!

Congratulations to Evie (Y2) and Gethin (Reception) who raised £250 by climbing to the top of Pen Y Fan to raise money for young dementia sufferers. Pen Y Fan is the highest peak in England and Wales south of Snowdonia at 886 metres tall. Gethin said, "I might be small but I don't give up". Evie said, "Never again, that was tough".
