Ellie's Bucket List
April 2015
1-- Read the Harry Potter series on a pink sand beach in Elafonissi, Greece
The first item on my bucket list is to read the Harry Potter series on a pink sand beach. The sand gets its hue from thousands of broken coral pieces, shells and calcium carbonate. The sand on the beach is an example of physical weathering. An force of erosion that act on the beach is waves. To travel to the beach, I'd fly to Greece, then travel to Elafonissi by car.
2-- Swim with whale sharks in Isla Holbox, Mexico
Another item on my bucket list is swimming with whale sharks in Isla Holbox, Mexico. Isla Holbox is an island, so its shores are physically weathered and eroded by waves. Isla Holbox is one of the most popular tourist destinations to swim with whale sharks. I would travel to the island on a boat.

3--Hike up Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, TX
I'd like to hike up Enchanted Rock with my friend Katherine. Enchanted Rock is an example of physical weathering, specifically exfoliation. The rock cracks and "peels" off in sheets because it constantly heats and cools. Wind and rain could erode away Enchanted Rock. Fredericksburg is about 188 miles away, so we could travel there by car in about three and a half hours.
4--Learn to windsurf in Destin, Florida
I'd like to learn to windsurf near a beach in Florida with my family. The beach is physically weathered and eroded by the ocean waves. I'd like to travel there by car so we could look at the scenery and spend time together. The trip would take about 10-11 hours.

5--Explore Niagara Cave in Harmony, Minnesota
The last item on my bucket list is exploring Niagara Cave with my friends. The rock in the cave was chemically weathered to create different cave structures. The rock can be eroded by water dripping from the cave roofs. It is also weathered and eroded by the 60 foot tall underground waterfall that tourists can visit. To reach Minnesota, the plane ride is about 6-7 hours.
