Klansmen With Burning Cross

This picture is showing members of the Klan standing next to a cross they just burned down. This is extremely significant because the KKK was known for burning down crosses as this is associated with racism and racial violence. One of the reasons the Klan did this was an effort to intimidate those who did not hold to the Klan's beliefs and ideals. As well as they claim that the practice of burning crosses is supposed to be a symbol of their religious faith. We chose to include this photograph in our exhibit because it shows how the KKK made the 20's "roaring." With the KKK burning crosses there was much racial and religious outbreaks going on, creating many violent scenarios, and an interesting time in history.
