Principal's Pen
We are officially in full swing of things and it is great to see kids back involved in all the extras that we are able to offer. I recognize that we are not out of the woods yet as far as restrictions and limitations go, but I for one will take whatever we can get. We hosted our first volleyball tournament in 2 years this past weekend and for just a while everything was right with the world. The opportunity to just be involved and tune out all the surrounding noise is vital for our staff, students and community.
I recently sent out a letter about the new rules for close contacts and there were some questions. If you are not a close contact you are welcome to participate in extracurricular, mask breaks, no masks outside or in the gym. Once there is a close contact case that is when everything gets more confusing. As it stands right now everyone is considered unvaccinated until I see proof of vaccination. That means if your student is a close contact, they will not be able to play extracurricular or be part of mask breaks, etc until I see their proof of vaccination. It must be in the form of:
· A copy of the card received when vaccination was given. This is acceptable if there is no question of identity or concerns about authenticity of the document
· A printout of MyHealth confirming vaccinations
· Any proof of vaccination originating from a system provided by the provincial government
· A Letter from a doctor, pharmacist of SHA official
I’m sorry but just telling me is not good enough, everyone needs to physically show me an example of this in order for the school to see you as vaccinated. I do want to make it clear that only I will have access to this information, unless it is deemed necessary for another adult to know in order to be able to allow them to be on a team or take the mask breaks.
I realize that this is a repeat of the email sent out, but I wanted to make sure everyone had access to this information. We are doing our best to keep things going for our kids, and if this is what we need to do in order to provide them opportunities, then we will.
Thank you to all the parents and community that came out on the weekend to support the kids, as well as the staff who put in the volunteer hours to make sure that it was a success. It was a great example of what we can do when we all work together to make it happen.
