Pastor Mary Beth's Musings
“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” — C. S. Lewis
In the face of the pain and suffering in our world, we cry out, “Why?! Why do good people have to go through such horrific experiences? Why does God allow such things to happen?”
This is often the question that arises after we answer “yes!” to the question that we addressed last Sunday, “Is There Really a God?” Okay, if there is a God, then why? Why does God allow pain and suffering? And so, we will address the question this Sunday as part of our 7 Big Questions sermon series.
It’s a very difficult questions that has plagued theologians since theologians have been talking about God. And to give you a foretaste of what we’ll think about, I want to be sure to say this: What I know is that God does not CAUSE pain or suffering. But God promises to be with us in the midst of suffering. And God has the power to bring good and hope out of even the worst of suffering.
God goes before us. God is with us. God is good. All the time. I’m praying for you. I hope you’re praying for me.
Glory to God!
