SLES Family Roar
Welcome Back SLES Families week 1
Dear Families,
Hello Families,
Welcome to the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year at Saint Leonard Elementary School! For those of you who have not met me, my name is Tammie Rudzinski, and I am the super proud Principal of our amazing school. I have been an educator for and leader for over 20 years. I began my career in Howard County, then spent 10 years in Anne Arundel County, and now I have spent the best years of my career in Calvert County. I can honestly say that our school has the BEST staff, the BEST families, and the BEST students!
I am a mother of three boys, and I love to read, dance, and spend time with friends and family. I have three main focus areas that are my priorities. They are relationships, expectations, and growth. We build relationships at Saint Leonard by holding community circles on a regular basis with our staff and students. We set expectations by sharing our lesson goals with our students. And we focus on growth by setting academic goals and by being willing to learn and try something new as teachers.
Some general information to know about school is:
School Hours: 9:15- 4:20
School Mascot: Leo the Lion
School Motto: Learning Equals Opportunity
School Colors: Teal and White
*Every Wednesday is Kindness Day (Wear Kindness Shirts)
*Every Friday is School Spirit Day (Wear School Shirts or school colors)
You are probably familiar with that age old question. What did you learn in school today? And you might also be familiar with the answer I donβt know. Try asking your children. What did you do in small group today? What were the lesson essential questions that your teacher shared with you? What did you read about? What did you write about? What problems did you solve today? What questions did you ask today? Iβm hopeful that these questions will help you to get more conversation with your children at home.
One goal I want to work on this year is to improve our overall school attendance. I know that there are times when students are sick, and they need to stay home. However, Iβm hoping that our students will stay healthy and we can limit excessive absences. Last year we had 16 students who had 36 absences or above and 93 students who had between 18 and 35.5 absences. I know we can work together to decrease the number of students who are missing 18 or more days of school.
Please donβt hesitate to contact me or any member of my leadership team with any questions or concerns.
