Let's Catch Up

I hope everyone had an enjoyable, restful break. My family was able to get away to the beach early in the break, do some housework and school work around the middle part, and enjoyed family and friends for the holiday. My youngest is now a licensed driver, and my oldest has graduation announcements ready to mail and has registered for her fall semester classes in COLLEGE! I'm feeling rejuvenated and focused, ready for the BIG end of the year push...a place I anticipate we all will be on Tuesday morning.

Mr. Jake Hurst will join us on May 5 to finish out the year for Mr. Coleman. He has experience teaching EC at all levels and went to college with Liana Velte. He is scheduled to move to this area from California this week. Hopefully, we will see him around getting to know the kids and us all before his first day.

I have made a recommendation for a teacher for our STEM lab for next year. I thought it would have gone before the board at the last meeting, but it did not. I will announce HIS name and a little about him after it is official.

SanLee has been allotted a 4th EC teacher position for next year!!!! We are so excited to have this position to eleviate some of the cRaZy scheduling we have had to do this year because of high numbers. Let me know if you know of anyone with EC certification looking for a job at the best school anywhere. :)

Congratulations to Rudy and Nikki, Mr. and Mrs. Leon! (They'll also be home owners VERY soon :)

Exceptional Childrens Program

The feedback favors the "Double Dip" which is closest to what we are doing now, yet takes away the broad choices of elective classes for those which have "resource" as their setting for approximately 40 students. These children will receive their services during Curriculum Assistance class on an A/B schedule alternating with Health/PE. We will discuss at the Leadership meeting and decide if we should gain feedback from students or move forward. If you want to weigh in, please talk with a Leadership Team representative.

Student Choice

I've had excellent feedback from Elective Teachers on 8th grade student's attitudes and engagement in their classes this semster. They attribute this to their ability to choose their class this semester. We plan to move forward with allowing rising 7th and 8th graders to choose first and second semester electives for 2014-15 school year. Our Elective Department collaborated and put together course descriptions, photos, and a form for students to complete in the coming weeks to sign up for what they are interested in taking. We are still tweeking, and would love any feedback you have. Please visit http://www.lee.k12.nc.us/Page/14162 and tell us what you think. You can even pretend to make choices to see what the form does to narrow choices depending upon answers as the student completes. We will delete all the responses before it "goes live". Let Sharon Manies know what you think.

End of Year Testing

Wednesday, May 28th, 8am to Tuesday, June 10th, 12pm

2309 Tramway Rd

Sanford, NC

Just wanted to remind you that all testing will take place the last 10 days of the school year. All field trips must be taken prior to May 28. Please plan engaging activities every day through the end of the year. If you need to use common areas (cafeteria, library, fields, etc.) for awards, rewards, and fun, please let me know in an email. These activities must begin after 1:00 p.m. to ensure all testing is completed for the day. I am placing these on the school calendar so others are aware. FYI: The last class leaves the cafeteria at 1:15 p.m.
