Summer Reading Partnership

We'd like to thank Horizons Greater Washington and St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School for a successful summer reading partnership. Tales2Go was incorporated into literacy rotations in the classroom (i.e. 20 minutes of guided reading, 20 minutes of Tales2Go and 20 minutes of phonics work). Students from Bancroft Elementary School in DC attended a Horizons DC summer enrichment program at St. Patrick's. Horizons DC develops public private partnerships between independent and public school communities to provide academic, cultural, and recreational programs designed to empower economically disadvantaged students to realize their full potential. Here's a great article in The Georgetown Dish that talks about the partnership, and the positive effect it had on student literacy.

Mrs. P's 'Be a Famous Writer' Contest

We are great fans of television star Kathy Kinney (perhaps best known for her role as Mimi on The Drew Carey Show), who brings classic children's stories to life as Mrs. P. Well, Mrs. P is celebrating her 5th annual 'Be a Famous Writer' contest and inviting teachers across the country to get their K-4 classrooms to submit a story about magic. Please feel free to share details about this fun contest with your colleagues; for more information, please visit the Mrs. P website. A subscription to Tales2Go is one of the prizes.
