Local/National Opportunities
Alamo Heights Summer Swim Meet - Pool Timers
The Alamo Heights Pool Sharks is the communities' Summer Swim Team. We have about 230 members from the ages of 6-18 who compete with other teams all over the city. We have up to five different opportunities this summer to offer service hours. We are in desperate need on timers for both our home and away meets. These volunteer positions provide a great service in that they allow the parents of the swimmers to enjoy watching the children compete instead of having to time during the meet. Each meet lasts about 3.5 - 4 hours and are held every Saturday morning in the month of June. We need between 18- 36 timers per meet. For more information, please contact Scott Percival,
AHPS Coaching Coordinator, at ahpoolsharks@gmail.com.

Subjects will include ongoing biomedical research occurring at the UT Health Science Center such as anatomy, physiology, medicine, molecular biology, aging, neurodegeneration, and more. Please note that while applications are accepted until June 2018, participants are accepted on a rolling basis and offered on a space-available basis.
BioFORCE is a residential STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) summer program of the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing that exposes high school students to the amazing process of how cutting-edge research and medical discoveries become new drugs and pharmaceutical treatments. BioFORCE prepares students for college programs in engineering and science and helps them discover their potential to become a scientist who creates a blockbuster, life-saving medicine or an engineer who manufacturers disease-eradicating vaccines!

- How would Smith explain why some nations are poor while others are rich?
