A Message from our Principal...
Dear Jefferson Families;
This is such a beautiful and inspirational time of year. While we monitor the changing colors and the daily weather fluctuations, we are also observing our students’ growing awareness of how they learn and learning is so important. I am privileged to be in and out of classrooms all day and I am pleased to report that I see students flexing their brain muscles; persisting with challenging assignments, working things out with peers, writing reflections about their progress and actually having fun with learning tasks. This is hugely important. We want students to be active, engaged learners. It is our goal to stimulate their innate curiosity. We know that the past 18 months have been tough for student learning. Some students have missed a few fundamental skills and content information. We don’t want students to think of themselves as being behind. We do want students to think of themselves as always learning, using new knowledge and pushing themselves to understand more. Teachers are providing instruction at multiple levels to help students fill in potential learning gaps. Please feel free to ask your child’s teacher about our word study initiative and our math thinking strategies. These are two ways we hope to help students develop good thinking skills and stay curious.
We are here to help students help themselves learn and grow. We appreciate any feedback you have.
Happy November!

4th Grade News
We are thankful for so many things this year: being back in school, the support staff working with 4th graders, students being at school. We truly have a lot to be thankful for. After Thanksgiving break, we will begin working on multiplication in math, inference in English reading, and story elements in Spanish reading.
We hope you have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing you!

Just a Reminder...
Harvard Diggins Library StoryWalk
Hello from the Harvard Diggins Library!
November's story in the Library's StoryWalk is 'We are Grateful: Otsaliheliga" by Tracy Sorell. It's a perfect book for this month of gratitude. A brief description is below -
The word otsaliheliga (oh-jah-LEE-hay-lee-gah) is used by members of the Cherokee Nation to express gratitude. Beginning in the fall with the new year and ending in summer, follow a full Cherokee year of celebrations and experiences. Written by a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, this look at one group of Native Americans is appended with a glossary and the complete Cherokee syllabary, originally created by Sequoyah.
The StoryWalk is located in Lions Park directly behind the library. All stories are presented in English and Spanish.
