A Letter from the Principal

Dear MDE Families,

We have many exciting opportunities coming up as we quickly approach the end of the school year. On Tuesday, June 8th, we will be celebrating our 5th grade students at our Moving Up Ceremony. This event will take place at 5:00 PM in the cafeteria at MDE, and students are allowed to have two guests attend. The ceremony will also be available via Webex if other family members would like to watch from home.

This week we will be sending home information regarding summer school for eligible students. We highly recommend this opportunity for all students that are invited!

Additionally, we will be having one final Math Game Night which will be coming home during the week of May 17th. You will be able to follow directions to play some really fun math games with your family, which will also help develop important math skills.

I am so proud of students' grit and positivity this year. During the middle of a pandemic, we were able to successfully come back to school, and work hard to continue learning. We could not have been so successful without our amazing teachers and staff, as well as the support of our families. Thank you! I am looking forward to another amazing year next year, and I hope that you have the opportunity to spend some quality time with your families this summer.

Sincerely,

Melissa Stamper

Counselor's Corner

Hello Mike Davis Families!!!

What an amazing school year we have had so far! Can you believe that we are already in the month of May?! The school year is coming to an end quickly, and although summer break is right around the corner, we want our star students to end the year strong! During the month of May, we will be focusing on the character trait of Integrity. Integrity is defined as having the courage to do what is right, even when it is difficult, and no one is watching. Talk to your student about why having integrity is important and share with them a time you showed integrity. Consider what showing integrity looks like in your family and have an open discussion about family expectations regarding honesty and values. To practice you could role play different scenarios when having integrity in school or at home may be difficult or even scary. Below are a few examples!

#1. A friend in class forgot to do their homework and asks to copy yours on the bus. How would you show integrity in this situation?

#2. You break your mom’s favorite vase accidentally! You know she will be upset when she finds out. How would you handle this situation with integrity?

#3. You a see another student at recess being picked on by some of your classmates, you are nervous to say something but know that how they are treating this student isn’t right. How can you show integrity in this situation?

As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I am always happy to help!
