Lins' Updates

Week of December 14th - December 22nd

Holiday Party Fun!

Caroling the Halls!

The 5th grade had a great time carolling to all of the other classrooms in Purdy this afternoon! This tied right into our holiday party where we made crafts, ate some delicious snacks and spent some quality time together!

Thank you to everyone who donated/brought in food for the party. Also a huge thank you to kids and parents for getting the secret santa gifts here -- AND keeping it secret (for the most part!! ;))

Hope everyone enjoys their winter break -- relax and readddd you holiday break away!!

Food Pantry Field Trip

On Monday all of 5th grade packed up the food pantry items and walked them over to the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry. They delivered their items and also got a tour of the place! They are always interested and looking for volunteers -- please remember to call ahead if you would like to help out!

Free Writing

The kiddos had a great time this week reflecting and sharing their photo essay and then relaxing around the room and drafting a free-write piece. Check out some of their pictures below! :)

Reader's Workshop / Literacy

I've been so impressed with the student's thoughts and responses about the civil rights movement and planning/execution of the March on Washington. I've seen some awesome improvements in thoughtful log entries, and especially summaries!

Unit 5 - Fractions!

This week we started our unit on Fractions. So far we have explored mixed number and improper fractions and how to switch between the two. We also worked on order and comparing fractions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

Germ Patrol Needs Help!

Germ season is upon us -- Ok, we're in school, so germ season is always here :)-- but our classroom is trying our best to stay germ-free, and healthy! This includes hand-sanitizing before snack as well as keeping our hands clean after using tissues. We try hard to keep the desks, door handles, and tables wiped down to keep germs to a minimum! However, we are running low on Lysol/Clorox wipes! If anyone will willing to donate germ wipes or hand-santizer, we would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!

Holiday Updates

This year we will be having a holiday party and as Secret Santa book exchange in our classroom on December 22nd. Each student completed a short survey about the genre/type of books they like to read. Your child should have come home with a name and the completed survey last week. The book can be purchased new or gently used with a price limit of $5. Please let me know if you need help with ideas!

On another note the 5th grade will be running a food drive to make donations to the Food Pantry. We will deliver the good during the week before winter break. Please be on the look out for a note home and more detailed information to come!
