PRINCIPAL'S VIEW
Kia ora koutou, kumusta, talofa lava
Last week I attended the New Zealand Principals' Federation Conference in Christchurch. This was held at Te Pae our brand new convention centre which is a magnificent building with marvelous facilities. Over 860 principals from around New Zealand attended the conference and we had many speakers address us over the 3 days. A highlight for me was listening to Scott Robertson (Crusaders Coach) speak. He explained how he builds team culture in the Crusaders and how he works with individuals to bring out the best in his players. What he said resonated with me strongly. I believe our role as teachers is to develop each individual child to help them to be the best person they can be and to realise their full potential. Teachers are coaches and help students to refine skills and take learning from different experiences in their time at school. We help them develop in their faith and hope to build their relationship with Jesus as they progress throughout St Mary's. I am lucky to have a great team of coaches around me to help teach our students. Together we will develop future champions no doubt!

Our Catholic Faith Fact
Why do priests wear red vestments? Well, when we celebrate a particular feast day within Ordinary Time the priest wears the colours of that feast. Red is used on Palm Sunday, on Good Friday, on Pentecost Sunday, on celebrations of the Lord’s Passion and on the feast days of the Apostles and Evangelists and martyr Saints. Wednesday 21 September is the Feast Day of St Matthew, the apostle and evangelist so look out for red when you are at Mass!

Change of Policy – Attendance Dues Debt Recovery
Please be advised that at the May Cathedral Parish Finance Committee, the committee signed off on a new Attendance Dues Debt Recovery Policy. This enables the parish to engage an external debt recovery company (Under Control Collections). This will always be used as a last resort, when we have been unable to get a family to engage with us in relation to their outstanding Attendance Dues.
Any queries should be directed to Kirsten Tester – Attendance Dues Administrator - Ph (03) 595 1053 or ktester@cathedralparish.nz
