LVES Weekly

A weekly newsletter for LVES Parents

September 11, 2015 - Issue 4

New Look

The LVES Weekly looks a little different this week! This new format allows me to add more information, pictures, links, and much more compared to the previous paper version. This format also allows parents to view the newsletter online, but if you still prefer a paper copy, one will be in Friday folders as well. If you have a middle or high school student, then you are very familiar with this format, as Mr. Thailing and Mrs. Stoner use this as their newsletter too! I hope you enjoy the new and improved LVES Weekly!

First Home Football Game

Head over to LVHS on Friday, September 18th to cheer on the Varsity football team as they host the first home football game of the season. District administrators and staff will be enforcing the following expectations to ensure that all Viking fans enjoy the game:

1. All students 4th grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult guardian in order to attend Lago Vista High School varsity football home games. The students must remain under the supervision of that guardian while at the stadium.

2. Standing, loitering, or horseplay under and around the stadium stands, concession stands, or any other area is prohibited. Revealing, provocative and/or inappropriate dress will not be allowed, nor will inappropriate behaviors or foul language. Repeat offenders will be required to leave the stadium and campus.

3. Once inside the stadium, middle school and high school students with a student ticket will be allowed to sit in the designated student area on the home side of the stadium. Students may sit in the reserved or general admission sections only if they are under the supervision of an adult guardian.

4. The use of alcohol, controlled substances, tobacco, and electronic cigarettes are prohibited on school premises.

Lago Vista ISD appreciates everyone’s cooperation and support as we work to keep a safe and enjoyable environment at Viking football games.

1st and 2nd Grades to Pep Rally

All first and second grade classes will travel to the high school on Friday, September 18th to attend the pep rally. Buses will leave LVES at 8:30, and return around 9:30. Teachers will be sending home a permission slip next week, so please make sure that you sign and return the permission slip by Friday, September 18th. Third and fourth graders attended last week's pep rally and showed a lot of spirit!

Grandparent's Lunch

Don't forget that Grandparent's Lunch is on Monday, September 14th and Tuesday, September 15th. The schedule and lunch times for Monday, September 14th are:

  • Kindergarten: 10:45-11:15
  • 2nd Grade: 11:40-12:10
  • 4th Grade: 12:15-12:45

The schedule and lunch times for Tuesday, September 15th are:

  • Pre-K: 12:20-12:50
  • 1st Grade: 11:10-11:40
  • 3rd Grade: 11:50-12:20

If we have scanned your driver's license already this year, and you want to skip the line, please call the front office on Monday morning, and we will have your badge printed and waiting for you. Please be patient as visitor's will still need to sign in to Raptor and be buzzed in by a staff member, so plan on arriving a few minutes before the scheduled lunch times to park and get a visitors badge.

In order to maximize learning time, we ask that grandparents and visitors not visit classrooms before or after lunch so that teachers and students can continue the day's lessons and learning.

Campus Educational Improvement Committee (CEIC) Reps Needed

The Lago Vista Elementary School Site-Based Decision Making Committee is a group of teachers, parents, community members and local business owners who serve in an advisory capacity to review data and campus programs. Our commitee is looking for a parent, community member and business owner rep. Members serve on this committee for a 2-year rotation. Meetings are typically held monthly at 3:15 in the LVES library. If you are interested in one of the positons listed, please contact Michelle Jackson at

Running of the Vikings

LVES students will have the opportunity to run through the tunnel in front of the Varsity football players at the first home game on Friday, September 18th. If your child would like to be a part of Running of the Vikings, please fill out the t-shirt order form in Friday folders and return to the front office by Friday. Students will receive their Running of the Vikings t-shirt prior to Friday's game and will get in the game for free. LVES students will line up in the end zone in front of the field house before the start of the game to get lined up and ready to run in front of the Varsity players. If you have any questions, you can email the Booster Club at

Early Release on September 30th

LVISD will have an early release day on Wednesday, September 30th. At the elementary, teachers will be meeting with parents for fall conferences. We will release at 11:30 on that day, so there will not be afternoon PPCD or Pre-K classes. Your child's teacher should be contacting you soon about setting up a time for conferences.

Family Fun Night Success

Our first Family Fun Night at PDQ was a huge success! Thank you to our fabulous first grade teachers - Mrs. Arredondo, Mrs. Ballard, Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Simons and Mrs. Williams - for representing LVES. They made milkshakes, called out orders and even greeted customers in the drive thru window. Don't worry if you missed this one, our next Family Fun Night is October 13th. Fourth grade, Mrs. Jackson and Mr. Holt will be on hand to greet families and show our Viking spirit.

Weekly Attendance Rate

Our attendance rate for the week of Sept. 10:

  • 96%

Remember our weekly goal is 97%, so please make sure that your child is at school everyday from 7:45-2:45.

If our attendance average at the end of the 1st nine weeks is 97% or higher, Mr. Holt is going to shave his head!
