Independent Study Updates
August, 2018
Welcome To (or Welcome Back To) Independent Study at Cañada College
I will send out these newsletters as needed throughout the year. Please read through the information and contact me if you have any questions.
Off To A Great Start!
Most students are spending time in the classroom working on assignments, which is great.
Please remember that Independent Study students are most successful when they:
- Spend time in our classroom working on assignments.
- Set and stick to a schedule.
- Adhere to established due dates in Apex classes.
- Check and read school and college emails daily.
- Ask for help if needed.
We are in the process of hiring our Math Tutor. Once the district clears him to begin working with students I will send out an email with his schedule.
I am looking forward to a fabulous year with my amazing students!
SUHSD Parent Education Series
More workshops will be added throughout the course of the year.
Concurrently Enrolled Students
If you are struggling in a class talk to me!
The last day to drop a class without a W is September 3rd. Please discuss this with me now if you are considering dropping any classes.
I highly recommend that you keep a daily planner to make sure you keep up with assignment due dates and upcoming exams. Remember, college course grades are permanent on college transcripts.
PSAT for Grade 10 and Grade 11
I will share additional information about this with students as I receive it from home schools. Thankfully, October 10th is a Flex Day for the college, so students won't miss their college classes.
Seniors
All Seniors
Read all of the emails from your home school college and career center. There are many important dates and valuable information in these emails meant to help you prepare to apply to college and make decisions about post-high school plans. I do not get all of them, so, it is up to you to read this information.
Four Year College Bound Seniors
Please connect with your home school counselor and your home school college and career counselor to make sure you know what you need to do in preparation for applying to 4 year colleges. Do this now if you have not yet done so. I will support and assist you, but, you need to understand the process and deadlines required by your home school. The more you know ahead of time, the better.
Make sure you can log into and navigate your Naviance account.
