CONGRATULATIONS, DR. KAREN KING!

Highlands' Dr. Karen King was named the 2014 McKinney-Veto Regional Advocate of the Year at the 2014 ECYEH Conference! Recipients received the award based on continual efforts and support of students experiencing homelessness in their home districts. Dr. King is the Pupil Personnel Services Director at Highlands. We are proud of you, Dr. King!

PRE-K OPENING

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED THIS SPRING

Host families will be needed in the Spring for AFS International Days. Contact Kathy Harenski at 724-226-3390 or kharenski@verizon.net if you are interested in hosting an AFS student from another district overnight.

State Tests Feedback: Are you interested in what goes into the questions on state tests? Do you have an opinion about what Eligible Content is regarding PSSAs? Check out this site and give your feedback! Site closes on Jan. 15: http://www.paacademicreview.org/ .


Natrona Heights Baseball/Softball Assoc. (NHBSA) registrations for the 2015 season begin on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 6-8pm at the Harrison Township Municipal Building. Visit www.nhbsa.com for additional registration days and information.


Highlands Little League registrations for the 2015 season begin on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 12-4pm at the Highlands Community Center. Visit www.highlandslittleleague.com for additional registration days and information.


Daffodil Days: Support the Highlands Relay for Life and American Cancer Society by purchasing a “Hope by the Bunch” during the Daffodil Days sales. Cost per bunch is $14 and donations of a “gift of hope” will also be accepted for $14 each. Cash or checks will be accepted, made out to Melissa McCurdy. Flowers will arrive Friday, March 13. Contact Melissa by email to mmccurdy1996@verizon.net or 724.224.2646 or order at any district building. Orders due by Thursday, Jan. 22.


Share the Warmth: Donate your gently used warm items or new items to warm those in need. Items can be dropped on the porch of 1126 Constitution Dr. in Tarentum. If you have a need for winter wear or have questions call Generations Pastor Nick Chybrzynski at 828-238-4272.


Positive Athletes: Don’t forget to send your POSITIVE ATHLETE nominee to Misty Chybrzynski at mchybrzynski@goldenrams.com. Indicate the athlete’s name, grade level, sport, and how they are being a positive athlete. Please also note the best way to contact you with questions.


Donate Your Used Specs Today: Tarentum Area Lions Club will be collecting used Eye Glasses in each district building! Send your used specs or drop them off to any school building to be recycled for those in need! Donations being accepted now!


Salvation Army Afterschool Clubs: Looking for a great afterschool program? Check out the Salvation Army Free Afterschool Clubs on Wednesdays. Transportation available by request. Contact Jared at 724-224-6310 ext. 2 to sign up! Activities offered include Open Gym from 3 – 5pm on Mondays; Kids Supper Club from 4:30 – 6:30pm on Wednesdays and Sunday School at 10 am followed by services through Noon.
