Caring

We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and int the world around us.

PEACE DAY 2018

On September 21, 2018 Peirce celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace. This we made our wishes for peace know by creating classroom Peace Poles

The first part of the IB mission statement reflects beautifully what we hope for our students to understand by celebrating this day:

"The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect."

We hope that you have a peacful day, week, month, and year.

“Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.” ~ Hafsat Abiola

Inquiry in the PYP

How can you support inquiry at home?

Ask about what your child is learning in class - "Here are 30 Questions to Ask Your Kid Instead of How Was Your Day."
  • Support and encourage interest and curiosity by following up with activities at home.
  • Encourage and practice good communication skills such as starting conversations and debates about current events.
  • Help your kids develop research skills online and from text.
  • Enjoy building projects together in the home.

Here are "50 Fun Questions to Get Your Kid Talking"

ASK THE MYP!!!

MYP students were asked how they demonstrated CARING and your commitment to SERVICE during the month of September. Read below to find out what they said...

A'Kayah Harshaw, MYP Year 1

I have shown my commitment to service by helping to clean up trash at the beach. I show that I am caring because when my friend was crying because she got picked on, I told her that we could resolve her problem by telling the teacher and everything would be OK.

Muriel Briggs-Scalzo, MYP Year 3

This year I have shown my dedication to service by helping my friends with their homework and by volunteering at the Back to School Picnic.

Willa Kennedy- MYP Year 1

The way I’ve demonstrated caring by helping out at my brothers birthday party and I helped my friend when she fell down at the park and skinned her knee. I helped her tell a coach and get a Band-Aid.

Raquel Reyna , MYP Year 3

I have shown that I’m caring by helping my friends with stuff they are going through. For service, I am volunteering to help raise money for the New York City scholarship by babysitting so that parents can go on a date.

Jontavious Barnes, MYP Year 2

I have shown caring for my friends and others because when they are feeling down, I come over and try to encourage them so that they will feel better. An example of a service I have have done for my school is picking up pieces of paper, gum from under tables, and washing the tables in the lunchroom.

Denis Ulrikas, MYP Year 2
