ACCESS testing is Coming! What is ACCESS Testing?
ACCESS for ELLs is an English language proficiency test that measures ELL students’ academic English language skills. You have the right to accept or decline language support, but ELL students must be tested every year to help teachers understand their language skills. Test information helps teachers plan how best to teach your child. Test scores also help teachers know when your child can stop receiving English language support
When is ACCESS Testing this Year?
ACCESS testing for 2021-22 can occur any time between December 2021 and January 2022.
Why Is My Child Taking the ACCESS Test?
First:
When you registered your child for school, you answered questions about the language you use at home.
Then:
A test measured your child’s academic English skills in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
Finally:
Based on your child's academic English proficiency, they qualified as an English Language Learner (ELL, or EL).
How to Help Your Child Prepare for the ACCESS Test
- Read with your child at home, and talk about reading as a family. This exposes your child to words and ideas, which are the foundation of all learning.
- Make sure your child gets enough sleep every night -- It's more than you think! Elementary students need between 9 and 12 hours of sleep per night! Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep per night!
- Ensure attendance at school, so your child doesn't have gaps in their learning that they have to overcome.
