Virtual Learning Resources
Whether you are experienced in the Virtual learning environment or new to the virtual learning or blended classroom, the following resource can provide you support or ideas for your virtual teaching and learning journey: Virtual Learning Resources
Evidence of Student Learning
The CCPS Instructional Model is based on the gradual release model: I do, we do, you do. A critical component of this model is evidence of student learning in relation to grade level standards. Student work and performance on assigned tasks and assessments are the key indicators to determine whether students are on track towards mastery and/or working at the appropriate level of rigor required by the standards.
English Language Arts
Focus for Grade 9
In grappling with the complexity of “The Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet” students can take advantage of a variety of resources provided by HMH and CPALMS. Links to these resources can be found in the “Teacher Resources” page in the CCPS modules. Teachers can assist students in meeting high expectations by providing scaffolding where needed.
Focus for Core Text Grade 10
Students will be comparing multiple versions of excerpts from Kakfa’s “The Metamorphosis”. Using the resources provided in the “Teacher Resources” page of the CCPS modules, teachers are able to assist students with this challenging text by providing background information through written and visual sources.
Curriculum Guide Highlight

Science
Biology
Cells! True or False? On the BIO EOC, students need to know the difference between “rough” and “smooth” endoplasmic reticulum. (False!) Stick to the content limits when teaching parts of the cell. Items referring to eukaryotic structures are limited to the cell wall, cell membrane (plasma membrane), cytoplasm, nucleus, nuclear envelope, nucleolus, chromatin, chromosomes, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, microtubules, microfilaments, vacuoles, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, chloroplasts, lysosomes, cilia, and flagella.
Teaching the microscopic world requires using the microscope. Please take COVID precautions in sanitizing hands and materials before and after labs or sorting activities.
Tech Tip

CTE Celebrates Computer Science Education Week December 7 – 13, 2020
Why computer science?
Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. See more stats by clicking the link below:
https://hourofcode.com/us/promote/stats
Many CTE students participate in Hour of Code during this special week. Computer Science Education Week is held every year in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. Click the link below for more information about the Admiral:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Work-Based Learning
Work-Based Learning is off to a great start this year. Students are hearing from guest speakers, getting insight into local businesses, and participating in mock-interviews all through the magic of the computer!
Lely High School (LHS) recently had over 30 students participate in virtual mock-interviews with local business professionals. These interviews allowed students to practice their interviewing techniques while gaining constructive feedback to help improve their skill-set for future internship and job interviews.
Other schools’ and academies are looking to participate in similar virtual work-based learning experiences, and CCPS is always looking for professionals willing to donate their time to help students.
Click HERE to learn more about work-based learning and how you can get involved, or contact Courtney Stahlman, Manager of CTE Programs at stahlc@collierschools.com or 239-377-0109.
What's happening in Entrepreneurship?
During the month of December, students will focus on Customer Connections
OVERVIEW: During the month of December, students will be introduced to the various channels businesses can implement to connect with customers. Student learning and understanding around concepts such as Unique Value Proposition (UVP) and Customer Relationships will be expanded.
Strong emphasis will be placed on the following:
- POSITIONING / Students define what positioning is and how it represents the evolution of their UVP. Teams develop positioning statements for their business that will be used to guide all communication with their customers. Students choose a working brand name for their business idea.
- CUSTOMER RELATIONS / Teams modify, iterate and add details to the channels they have identified on their Business Model Canvas. With new learning about their customer target (from their interviews), teams prioritize the most effective and cost appropriate path to reach early adopters so they can begin to test these assumptions.
- MARKETING FOR STARTUPS / This module introduces teams to the tactics for developing a relationship with customers. They incorporate ways to on acquire new customers, develop customers, and expand their customers into their Business Model Canvas.
- MARKETING FOR STARTUPS / Students are introduced to the various marketing tactics that startups use to build awareness of their product or service. Students learn the distinction between “free” (earned) and paid marketing tactics that leverage the Internet as a tool to communicate with customer segments. They learn to use web/app/social media marketing tactics to reach and get customers. They also learn about and discuss more traditional marketing sources.

Physical Education or Physical Activity? (There is a difference!)
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (PA) can be structured or unstructured play or practice and helps us to meet the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Anyone can facilitate PA as it does not require specific skills and knowledge to participate and requires little to no feedback. PA may or may not help students meet and master standards/goals. PA is commonly used to get kids “moving” and is seen in Open Gym, running clubs, brain breaks, recess, etc.
Quality Physical Education FOCUS 4:
- DAILY INTEGRATION OF 14 REQUIRED STANDARDS/BENCHMARKS for planning, instruction and assessment for determining the skills and knowledge needed for building health and physical literacy.
- STANDARDS-BASED PERFORMANCE SCALES UTILIZED FOR PROGRESS MONITORING by both students and teachers to identify targets to be learned, practiced, assessed, retaught, etc. (Scales provided)
- STANDARDS-BASED/GRADE LEVEL APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENTS IN FOCUS with 4 graded categories equally weighted: Movement Competency, Cognitive Abilities, Lifetime Fitness, and Responsible Behaviors and Values that contain assessments and assignments that are grade-level evidence of mastering or progress towards mastery of required learning of standards, benchmarks, goals, and targets
- HIGH EXPECTATIONS, STRONG INSTRUCTION, AND DEEP ENGAGEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS TO BUILD PHYSICAL LITERACY

Digital Innovation Best Practices
Canvas:
- Page History allows you to easily go back to previous versions of the page. You can view the page history of specific pages by selecting “View Page History” on each page. (click the 3 dots on the upper right of the page). Canvas keeps a detailed log of who and what was changed. And users are able to revert to a previous version of the page.
Oops! I didn’t mean to delete that! We’ve all had a incident of accidentally deleting or losing work, but with this nifty trick you can see a log of deleted items, which might prove to be a course saver. Here’s the fix! If you add “/undelete” to the end of your course’s URL, you can view the last 25 deleted items from your course site.
Surface Book Tools: Digital Inking
- Did you know that you have digital inking tools right on your Surface Book that allow you to use your finger on the touch screen or stylus to write on a whiteboard, markup documents, sketch diagrams and annotate text as you are sharing your screen with your students through WebEx or projected to your classroom whiteboard? Watch this quick video to see how easy it is to use these great tools. VIDEO
- Connect to your Surface Book to the protector through the WiDi – Directions
Office 365 Whiteboard
Office 365 has a whiteboard students can use to collaborate with each other. You can use it in the way you use traditional white boards. You can also share your whiteboard with students and project it if you want to see whole class participation.
Jamboard
- Looking for a quick and easy way to engage virtual and in-person students? Try https://jamboard.google.com/
- Use it to have students respond on virtual sticky notes to teacher-created questions. Click here for ideas of how to use Jamboard in the classroom. https://ditchthattextbook.com/jamboard/
Classroom equipment set-up - Best Practices
- When instructing virtually or in a blended model, use multiple monitors to allow you to share your screen in WebEx and instruct from one monitor while monitoring your students on the second monitor
