Welcome to the Family!
We are so proud that, of your student's many options for college, your family chose us. You probably made that decision because Georgia College feels like a community. In an environment like ours, students form close relationships with their faculty and staff, are equally challenged and supported, and get to learn and grow with a community who wants to see them succeed.
As parents, you are a big part of our community! While you anticipate letting go, little by little, to let your student become independent, we know you are still a necessary part of their journey in college. Your student relies on you now for moral, emotional, and -- yes-- financial support. They will still rely on you at first to help them navigate the transition to college. That is why the Office of Parent and Family Programs is here: to support you as you support your student.
I hope you will take a minute to view the video below. Athletic Director Wendell Staton is the long-standing emcee for parent orientation and GC's greatest cheerleader. Though I wish you could meet Wendell in person, he couldn't let an orientation season go by without welcoming you to Georgia College. People like Wendell are all around at GC, and that's how you know there's no better place to be.
You will hear from me throughout the summer about important dates, getting prepared for fall, and your student's first days on campus. In the meantime, please reach out with any questions. I am delighted to have you join this community, and I can't wait to meet you on campus!
Emily Jarvis, Director of Parent and Family Programs
Fall Semester Dates
Dear Bobcats,
The health and safety of Georgia College students, faculty, and staff is of the utmost concern for the university. Out of an abundance of caution, and due to continued concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia College will amend the fall semester academic calendar.
Fall classes will begin Wednesday, August 12, instead of the originally scheduled date of Monday, August 17. Fall break, originally set for October 12-13, has been removed from the calendar. The last day of classes will be Tuesday, November 24. Final exams will begin Tuesday, December 1, after the Thanksgiving break and will take place online. The full revised academic calendar is available here, and the final exam schedule here.
The goal of these changes is to ensure learning continues while limiting the potential spread of COVID-19 by reducing travel to and from campus.
This new calendar has been reviewed and approved by the University System of Georgia and is supported and endorsed by the Georgia College academic administration.
More details on the university housing plan and move-in date procedures will be shared as soon as possible. I truly appreciate your continued support.
