Oedipus the King; Character Map

Oedipus
Biological son of Laius and Jocasta. Adopted by King Polybus and Queen Merope. He kills Laius on the crossroads outside of Thebes. He defeats the Sphinx, saving Thebes and as a reward marries Jocasta. They have four kids Antogine, Isemer, Eteocles, and Polynices.
Laius
Biological father of Oedipus, married to Jocasta. He try's to kill Oedipus as a baby because the Oracle of Apollo says Oedipus will try to kill him when he's older. Laius is later killed by Oedipus anyway outside the crossroads of Thebes.
Jocasta
Biological mother of Oedipus, married to Laius. Helped try to kill Oedipus as a baby. Later marries Oedipus not knowing its her son and has four kids Antogine, Isemer, Eteocles, and Polynices.
Polybus & Merope
King and Queen of Corinth. Adoptive parents of Oedipus.
Corinth
City in Greece ruled by King Polybus and Queen Merope.
Oracle of Apollo
Where a priest delivered messages from Apollos to those seeking advice.
Sophocles
Author of the play Oedipus.
Sphinx
Head of woman with body of a lion with wings, makes riddles no one can solve but commits suicide when Oedipus solves her riddle.
Antigone & Isemer
Daughters of Oedipus and Jocasta.
Eteocles & Polynices
Sons of Oedipus and Jocasta.
Creon
Brother-in-law of Oedipus, brother of Jocasta, uncle to Eteocles, Polynices, Antigone, and Isemer. Creon goes to the Oracle of Apollos to ask on behalf of Oedipus, how to end their misfortune.
