It’s no Blarney!
I had a conversation with a friend the other day. He explained an interaction he had with a person in another community. They had asked about his PLC, why do they do it, how do you know if what you're doing makes a difference? Good questions.
This is something that I think about a lot in the past and this year has been no different. Sometimes it may not feel as though our PLC work has been impactful thus far. I have to think that the work we have done in previous years has helped guide our work in a positive direction. The relationships amongst staff and the common goal to create both engagement and skill building is something that I see throughout the building. This year has been challenging; changes in staff and roles, challenging groups of students, large class sizes... I would say the bulk of our work has revolved around helping handle stress, yes for the kids, but mostly for ourselves. So I won't feel bad that our work has been focused on ourselves so that we can better serve our kids.
This is important! We do the work we do because our kids are important. PLCs give us the ability to regroup and learn new skills so that we can provide the best for our kids. We may not always get to see exactly how impactful this work is, but, we know that our work is impactful because our kids appreciate us for the way we treat them and the work that we constantly do to help them be better. What you are doing makes a difference, PLC is just a small part of that!
This week I look forward to continuing conversations around philosophy and vision. We will discuss the things that have helped us develop as a school moving forward.
You are appreciated and I am so very glad you’re here!
