MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOTZNY

Dear Parents,

We hope that you have had a chance to sign up for a parent/teacher conference with your child's teacher(s). The parent/teacher relationship is very important for a student's success. Our goal is to give each parent a report of academic progress as well as strengths and weaknesses for each student. We appreciate and value your support.

You may have noticed on the dates below that we have our first Spirit Shop coming up in December. We will not be allowing lunch visitors on the 2 days that we will have Spirit Shop this year. Parents can join us to volunteer to work in the Spirit Shop, but we will not be allowing any lunch visitors. We appreciate your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Heather Motzny

Message from The Nurse

Big picture

As cold, strep and flu season progresses, we are in that time of year when many students are coming down with upper respiratory symptoms. These include nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, headache, and possibly fever.

Please be aware that Texas Administrative Code requires that students be excluded from school for a fever of 100.0 F or higher and they may not return to school until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Temporarily masking a fever with medication does not change the fact that the child is in the contagious period of an illness and may be spreading illness, like the flu, to others by coughing, sneezing, and by touching surfaces around the school.

While we value student attendance very much, it is important that everyone plays their part in keeping the spread of illness to a minimum by following this rule.

Please also make sure that you have your daytime contact numbers and emergency contacts up to date with the Registrar so that you can be reached in the event your child is ill and must be picked up from school.

For more information on when to keep a sick student home from school, please visit the district website at the following link, https://www.cfisd.net/Page/1924 . For guidance to communicable disease rules https://www.cfisd.net/Page/1920

Nature Trails

Do you love the great outdoors and helping students learn? Then our third and fifth grade Nature Trails might be for you! Sampson third and fifth graders will attend Nature Trails on January 19th (math/sci homerooms) and January 20th (ELAR homerooms). We will need parents at the stations to help facilitate the activities and teach the concepts. Volunteers must be currently trained (year 2021 and up) since the Trails has a completely new curriculum. How did you start your business?

I have been working retail since high school and I love it more every single day! I have a degree from the University of Houston in Consumer Science and Merchandising. I worked for Academy’s corporate office after college but spent most of my retail career with my mom watching her build a successful business. When the opportunity of opening The Brook Home & Gift presented itself, I wasted no time 😊

How long have you had your business?

The location of the business has been here for 9 years but we reopened as The Brook in 2020.

What motivates you to do what you do?

When you love what you do, it doesn't really feel like work! And even though owning your own small business is so much work I absolutely LOVE all it entails.. from going to market and finding the inventory to helping every person who walks in our door. I really love working with people and being able to be a part of whatever it is they are in the shop for...even if it's just conversation! Lots of my customers have become great friends!

In the spirit of the season, will you also share what you are thankful for?

I am so very thankful for my family that God has blessed me with...my husband and 3 children. I am thankful for my career ..all my wonderful employees (my biggest assets) and our loyal customers (we wouldn't be where we are without them)

I am also SO thankful for Sampson.. the family and friends we've made, the teachers & staff that so graciously give their time to our children!
I am very grateful to be able to sponsor such a wonderful school!
