What is going on?
PBL: For the remainder of the two weeks until Winter Break, students will be engaged in a PBL about how cultures celebrate different traditions around the world. We encourage your child to attend Candyland this Saturday because this year’s theme coincides with our PBL unit of study.
Math: We will begin reviewing all place value TEK’s (use standard, written, and expanded forms, locate position of a # on a number line, use concrete models to compose & decompose #’s, compare & order #’s) up to 1,000.
Reading: We will be reading about cultures through our PBL project.
Writing: We will continue our persuasive writing unit. We will continue to read a variety of persuasive books to identify the different opinions of the characters in the story. We will begin writing different persuasive letters stating our opinion on a topic of interest. Students will also begin learning how to justify their opinion with reasons and examples.
Social Studies: We will be studying cultures through our PBL project.

Second Grade Giving Opportunity:
We have the unique experience to help the Texas Baptist Children’s Home this holiday season. Through our PBL project, we learned that TBCH is a local landmark dedicated to helping those who need it most!
If you would like to participate, we will be collecting newly wrapped books for the Family Care Program at the Texas Baptist Children’s home. This program provides safe housing for single mothers and their children. The mothers and their children enter into this program with very little and they are often so excited to be able to distribute the books as Christmas gifts to their children.
If you choose to participate, please wrap the new book and label it for a boy or a girl with the approximate age level appropriateness of the book. (Please see the list below)
You may bring the book to school on Wednesday, December 16th –the day of our classroom Winter Party. Please know this is completely optional, but it is a great way for us to help others during this holiday season.
