Meet Suarlin Alvarado
Hi there, I am Suarlin Alexis Alvarado Amira. I currently live with my mom and a brother and a sister in our town; San Martin Jilotepeque. My father works far away from us. We usually see him on the weekends when he gets home. My poor parents have had very hard economical problems. We just moved to a place where my parents are building our new house. My mom works making tortillas in the marketplace, but she doesn't earn enough to pay for my school. Most of our free time we all help to do chores with my mom. I really want to become an accountant and I am working very hard to get good grades and be a successful student. I just want to be able to help my parents and siblings in the future.

Tentative Schedule of Events
Monday: Multi-Step Equations. Independent Practice #’s 1-3 on
Tuesday: Review for test over EE.4.A (Equations)
Wednesday: EE.4.A Equations Test
Thursday: Finishing Test/Pre-Test for EE.4.B
Friday: No School (PD Day)
Our power standards for third quarter are:
EE.1 Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients. (Graded and in SIS)
EE.4.Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
EE.4.A. Solve word problems leading to equations of the form px + q = r and p(x + q) = r, where p, q, and r are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach.
Our learning targets for this week are:
I can construct and solve two-step equations.
Important terminology for this unit:
Variable, equation, expression, inequality, term, coefficient, inverse operation, constant, reciproca

This week we have been hard at work on our Expository Writing and our Close Read. Please check in with your child to find out what fun and interesting topic they have chose to write about! Looking ahead to next week, we will continue working on our Expository Writing (5 paragraphs and multiple sources). We will also host a mini debate in our classrooms that centers around our Close Read: “Co-Ed or Single Sex Schools?”.
Week at a Glance:
Monday: Finish Close Read, Writing Session #6
Tuesday: Intro to shared reading, peer editing of essay
Wednesday: Shared Reading, Expository Writing, Read Live
Thursday: Writing session #7, Read Live
Our learning topic for this week: Citing Textual Evidence - Using text to support a claim.
Important Terminology: central/mail idea, textual evidence, fact, opinion, bias
Objectives for the Quarter:
S&L - Acknowledge new information expressed by others and adjust as warranted.
Elements of a Non-Fiction Text: identify the elements of a non-fiction text, and explain how they contribute to the understanding of the text.
Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions: draw conclusions and make inferences based on a text and pre-existing knowledge.
Process for Expository Writing - Research, Organization, Development and support of ideas, and Revisions
Citing Textual Evidence - Using text to support a claim.

Science
Hi Families! This past week we worked on Objectives 3 and 4, the Interactions Between Circulatory and Respiratory Systems. Quiz scores from Friday will be updated by Monday, making four "checkpoint" grades in the gradebook. This next week we'll focus on how the Muscular and Nervous Systems work together and respond to stimuli!
Next Week at a Glance:
Monday: Muscular System Notes and Videos
Tuesday: Nervous System Notes and Videos
Wednesday: Muscular and Nervous System Stations
Thursday: Muscular and Nervous System Quiz
Learning Target for the Week:
I will describe the interactions between the Nervous and Muscular Systems by:
- Consistently identifying the function of all organs in the Nervous System
Consistently identifying the function of all organs in the Muscular System
Consistently describing how the Nervous and Muscular Systems work together
Consistently explaining why an organism responds to a stimulus
Important Vocabulary: Muscular System, muscle contraction, muscle relaxation, Nervous System, nerves, stimulus (full Human Body System Vocabulary found on Quizlet)
Objectives for the Unit:
Interactions Between the Circulatory and Digestive Systems
Explain How Digestion is Necessary for Survival
Explain the Transport of Nutrients and Wastes
Interactions Between Circulatory and Respiratory Systems
Interactions Between Nervous and Muscular Systems
Predict Body Responses
