A Resource for Families, Week of May 25th
Dear Families,
Welcome to week 11! It's hard to believe we have been engaged in distance learning this long. Thank you for your commitment to your child's education! For your planning purposes, there are no learning resources this coming week for Monday as it is Memorial Day. We encourage families to find time to get outside, play together, and remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. Also, the last day of school for children will be Tuesday, June 16th. We will continue to provide new instructional material through our distance learning resources through Friday, June 12th. On June 15th and 16th, we will introduce a "Summer Smore" filled with ways your children can continue learning throughout the summer months.
Our learning focus this week is on Emotional Health and Mindset! Throughout the week, the children are asked to journal about their feelings around specific prompts. There are some concepts the children are familiar with (Zones of Regulation) based on the learning that took place prior to the closure, and there are new concepts woven in. We feel strongly about the importance of this topic during this time when everything continues to feel unsettled and uncertain. If we can help you in any way as you support your child's emotional well being, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher, our school psychologists, or school counselor.
Curbside Pick-Up: This week, we will have an opportunity for families to come and pick up their child's belongings. Please see the map below for all the details and reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions. We are also offering children more books from our library if they need more reading material over the summer months. Please indicate your interest by clicking HERE. Please be sure to fill out the form by 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25th and complete a separate form for each child at VPS. The books will be given to you when you arrive to your teacher's designated parking area.
If you have any classroom materials or classroom library books, please be sure to bring them with you so they can be returned to your child's classroom teacher.
While this will be a time to see your child's classroom teacher, we are asking those who come to wear a mask, pull into the designated area for your child's teacher, give a wave and receive your child's belongings, and then continue on to keep the flow of traffic moving.
Incoming Fourth Grade Students - Music Ensemble Information: Registration for music ensembles at the Intermediate School will be starting in a few weeks! Click HERE for a sneak peek at the awesome musical opportunities at the Intermediate School!
Budget Vote: We are also approaching our annual school district budget vote. There will be a budget hearing during the VCS Town Hall on FaceBook Live this coming Wednesday, May 27th at 6:30 p.m. All budget information can be found on our district website. A detailed summary can also be viewed HERE.
I encourage everyone in your house who is 18 or older and registered to vote to take part in the voting process. If you are not yet registered, you may register with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Absentee ballots will be mailed to registered voters between May 27th and May 29th. Complete your ballot and return it in the provided return envelope. Ballots must be received by the district by June 9th. If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Goodberlet, District Clerk (goodberletm@victorschools.org).
With teaching in the classroom, it is easy to see and celebrate student learning every day. With distance learning, that has been much harder to do. In the spirit of celebrating all the learning taking place at home, using both the distance learning resources and the natural opportunities that present themselves each day, we have compiled some evidence of your children's learning to CELEBRATE all that is taking place in our virtual school community!! Be sure to check it out HERE. We are so incredibly proud of all of our children, parents, and staff for how you have each continued to learn each day!! We look forward to continuing our learning together this coming week!
With Great Appreciation,
