Cornelius van Drebbel
In 1624 Cornelius van Drebbel in vented the first submarine. However, Leonardo da Vinci drew a basic model of it around 100 years earlier. Drebbel, created a leather covered rowboat with air seals where the oars stuck out of. It could go for hours under the surface but could only go around fifteen feet.
Johann Gutenburg
In 1436 39 year old Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press. Before this invention anytime a book needed to be copied it would have to be hand written. It was time consuming and hard which made books very expensive. This invention helped print the first mass-production of the Bible, which was published in 1456 in Mainz, Germany.
Robert Boyle
In 1680 Robert Boyle invented the match. Fire could be made by rubbing two sticks together and striking flint an steel, how ever it was extremely time consuming. He discovered that rubbing sulfur and phosphorous together caused a flame. He new that the flame was caused by the chemical reaction, not the friction. As convenient as they were, they could accidentally light up in the users pocket. Through out time they were perfected to become the matches we use today.
Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo invented flying machines, diving suits, and the areal screw. Most of his inventions were not able to be created in his lifetime but were used in the future to create these thing He made substantial discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics, but he did not publish his findings and they had no direct influence on later science.
Parachute
Just like many of Leonardo's inventions the parachute was not invented but only designed in Leonardo's lifetime. His design of the parachute was later created by Adrian Nichols in 2000.
Diving Suit
While Leonardo was in Venice "The Water City" in the 1500's he invented the diving suit. He invented it for the army to use sneak attacks on enemy ships. The suit was a leather like bag that had tubes going up to the surface floating with corks.
Aerial Screw
Leonardo invented the areal screw in the 15th century. This inventions helped create the helicopter years later in the 1940's.
