The Leader in Me

This week our students discussed Putting First Things First (Habit 3). We talk about BIG ROCKS when we discuss Habit 3.

The ‘big rocks’ represent the important priorities that our roles play in our lives – time spent on key relationships and responsibilities, important projects, critical meetings, and so forth. These activities are in contrast to gravel, which represents all the little things that fill up our lives – email, calls, laundry, less important priorities, and so on. The key shift in thinking for Habit 3 is to realize that you can never get ahead by just sorting through the gravel faster. It’s a losing battle. Instead, you must decide what is most important, then schedule your weeks and days in such a way that you can focus your precious attention and energy on those things.
