FISD Early Childhood School
Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
We've wrapped up another wonderful week at school! We hope you are seeing great things from your child already this year. I know we are!
In our previous parent survey from last year, one of the things shared was that parents would like communication that was more consistent and regular. We heard you and we have made some improvements! Now all teachers for each of our programs are using the same daily communication page that is in your child's folder. We hope these give you a quick glimpse of what their day was like and gives you a place to send or receive a quick note as needed. For our weekly class communications, all teachers at the Early Childhood School are using SeeSaw this year! This is a fantastic tool and we hope you love it! It makes it fast and easy for teachers to send a quick note to the whole class, a weekly message with details about what we're focusing on in your child's class at school, or individual pictures and videos shared just with you! I learned about this from my daughter's kindergarten teacher last year and a few of our teachers at ECS. It's wonderful! If you haven't gotten set up, be sure to get your child's teacher to help you. You don't want to miss on any of the wonderful learning going on at school!
I wanted to send another reminder about car seats! For all of our students, parents are legally obligated to have the appropriate safety seat in your car. We just do not feel right putting a precious child in any car that does not have an appropriate seat for them. These laws are in place for a reason. If there were to be an accident of any kind, a young child is at a MUCH greater risk if not secured in an appropriate car seat. Please, please make sure your car has the right car seat for your child. We certainly don't want to interfere with your family routines by having to hold your child beyond dismissal. But if there isn't an appropriate car seat, we just cannot be liable for putting any child in that car.
Here is the verbiage from the Texas Department of Public Safety Website:
Front-Facing Car Seats - When children outgrow the rear-facing safety seat (minimum 2+ years), they should ride in a forward-facing safety seat as long as possible, up to the upper height or weight limit (40 – 80+ pounds) of the harnesses. Usually 4+ years old. Properly installed forward-facing in the back seat.
Booster Seats - After age 4 and 40+ pounds and behavior maturity*, children can ride in a booster seat with the adult lap and shoulder belt until the adult safety belt will fit them properly (usually when the child is 10 – 12 years old).
MUST have a lap/shoulder belt to use a booster seat.
Thank you so much for supporting us in keeping your children safe and providing them the very best education during their time with us! We know that we make the biggest and best impact when we work together as a team. We're glad that you are part of that team!
For any Cowboys fans out there in Cowboy Nation, your child is welcome to join us in wearing Cowboy attire the day after any wins this season! Their next game is Monday night! Go Cowboys!!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Pick-Up Reminders for Cars and Bus!
Bus Pick-up Reminders
As a reminder please be early to the bus pick-up for your location. If you have the need to call the bus transportation dispatch the phone number is 469-633-6155. The bus is scheduled to leave your location at a designated time to pick up other students within the district.
Carpool Pick-Up Reminders
Please be mindful when picking your child up for the AM and PM session. The AM session ends at 10:40 and the PM session ends at 2:40. You precious children are excited to see you again each day at carpool. When students are picked up late it affects other meetings and schedules for teachers. We appreciate your support.
I Want to Hear From You!!
Hey ECS Parents! I have a forum called The ECS Parent Place! I have already had several parents comment or post questions and I have responded to those! I love it!
As your child's principal, I want to make sure I keep open lines of communication with all of you! I'm hoping to hear from more of you so I can know your questions, feedback, and praise. This helps me stay better connected with you and your perspectives. It's also a good place just to see what others are asking in case you have the same question.

Next week I will present a new lesson for our students about strategies to help calm down. Our young students are at the learning stages of social skills. Inevitably, they will experience a negative interaction with another classmate or with a teacher. We are here to guide them to help talk about feelings and make good choices.
During our Pre-K lesson we will play “Pass the Hat.” Similar to the game of Hot Potato, students will pass a hat with faces until the music stops. Once it stops, the child holding the hat will pull a picture, label the feeling, and give examples of changes to the body (tears, hot face). Since young children are still learning to regulate their feelings, whether it’s positive or negative, we can teach specific strategies to calm down. I will teach them strategies like breathing exercises, squeeze something, and muscle relaxation exercises. Whether a child is angry or anxious or super excited that he or she can’t seem to focus on classwork, teachers can help remind students of how to refocus so they may continue learning.
In our PPCD classes, students will continue to participate in Baby Doll Circle Time activities which will focus on impulse/emotional control, task initiation, and prioritization. During the lesson, students will learn to pause between impulse and action through fun activities. For example, students will practice these skills when waiting for a turn, waiting for instruction and moving the baby dolls limbs. As we continue throughout the year with this curriculum, students will build on other skills like empathy, flexibility and prediction. I’m excited to observe our students succeed!
