Summer Lunch and Reading Program (SLRP)
Paloma Creek is partnering with Crossway United Methodist Church to provide an opportunity for our students to continue building on the growth they have achieved in reading this school year. Beginning May 30th-August 1st, our library will be open each Wednesday from 11:30-12:30. Students are invited to check out books, engage in a STEAM activity, and eat a free lunch.
Do you have students who need exposure to reading all summer so that they don't experience the 'summer slide?' Start telling their parents about SLRP! Students will maintain a reading log with the assistance of SLRP volunteers and will get to join me for a special lunch on the stage in August for meeting their reading goal.
Flyers about SLRP have been shared with each of our HOA organizations who are also partnering with us on this effort. This is a great solution to our lack of access to a public library for many of our falcons.
Do you have 1 hour a week, a month, or one Wednesday this summer to keep our falcons engaged in reading? Join the fun by volunteering for SLRP! Sign up today by clicking on the Sign-Up Genuis link below:
Paloma Creek Elementary SLRP It's easy! All you have to do is sign-up, show up, smile, and help kids select books or do a simple STEAM maker space activity.

Braswell High School Give Back Day
On May 21st, graduating seniors from BHS will return to their elementary campuses for a day of service. They will assist in classrooms and with various tasks on campus. If you're willing to host a graduate, please click on the hyperlink and indicate you will have them support you and your class. There are approximately 20 students who will be coming to Paloma Creek!
Below are end of year tasks that must be completed by you or volunteers:
End of year tasks you might consider for the seniors:
- Remove all staples and bulletin boards in the hallway to prepare them for being completely repainted this summer.
- Purge grade level book rooms of all outdated materials and supplies left behind over the years.
- Organize all bookshelves and cabinets.
- Dispose of all food in the classroom.
- Clean out refrigerators in the lounge and workroom.
Wait There's More Summer Seminar Sessions!
There are so many more opportunities than the ones I have highlighted. For more information click on the Summer Seminar hyperlink.
How do you sign up? You don't need to sign up. Simply plan your learning pathway and show up early at BHS to secure your spot in the classes you wish to attend as each class is limited to 25 participants. Some classes are offered more than once so this may help you plan your pathway more effectively.
How will you prove you've attended sessions and how will you share your learning with Kim and me? Simply complete the Summer Learning Certificate and submit it to us.
What if I've already signed up for TIA, but I'd rather attend Summer Seminar? It's not too late to change your plans. Simply click on the Summer Learning form and change your learning plan.
There are also sessions for fine arts and pre-k!
Interviewing Process for Paloma Creek
The process we currently utilize for interviewing candidates is outlined below:
- Assemble interviewing committee(s) based on open positions
- Research candidates who have applied through Applitrack
- Bring eligible candidates to the committee for a phone screening interview
- Score candidates based on rubric utilized by most campuses in our zone
- Determine whether or not candidates will come to campus to teach a lesson and be observed by the committee
- Final interview
- Committee provides input and administration determines whether or not a recommendation to hire is made for the appropriate opening
