Causes of the War of 1812
The Impressment
The impressment angered many americans and they called for war because a British war ship tried capturing the Chesapeake. When the Republicans gain more control of congress and presidency the tensions with Britain grew worse.
Economic Problems
America stopped all trade with Europe, and with out their trade the american economy suffered. Even though the non-intercourse act restored trade with Europe the americans economy still suffered.
War Hawks
They wanted war against Britain. The south was angery that britain had damaged their trade with Europe. The west was angrey because they blamed britian for indian attacks on the frontier.
The Native american Attacks
Americans moved into Indian land. The British troops were in western forts and the armed Indians to attack Americans.

Battle of Baltimore
The British navy tried to attack Baltimore but was stopped at Fort McHenry but the British ships retreated and the chesapeak area was saved. Fracis Scott was inspired to write the star spangled banner and it became the National Anthem.
Fighting at New Orleans
The British wanted to capture New Orleans and the Mississippi river to cut off trade. The Battle was led by Andrew Jackson an inspired nationalism throughout the country

Economy
Factories grew during the war and america depended less on British manufacturing.
Politics
The federalists had looked unpatriotic after the hartford convention and died out. William Henry Harrison and Andrew Jackson became heros.
Foreign Relations
They had International respect so America had become a world of power
Culture
America had turned from Europe and looked west to expand, america entered a period of Nationalism. They created a unique culture distinct from Europe.
