MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
165th EDITION: September 25, 2020
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
From the Desk of Mr. Curtis Price
It is a pleasure to serve as the Athletic Director for Marian Central Catholic High School. In this position, I have great pride and loyalty for the Marian Central community.
Typically, during the fall season, we would be gearing up for Friday night football, with chants from our cheerleaders and halftime performances from the dance team, as well as supporting the pink out volleyball game, and watching the boys soccer team at Peter Baker Stadium. However, the world of COVID has altered our plans. We had to delay the start of those sports, and it has caused a great deal of anxiety for everyone. However, I am thankful that some of our student-athletes are participating in sports this fall: girls and boys golf, girls and boys cross-country, and girls tennis. I am happy to see how these fall student-athletes have been able to cope with the changes made to their practices and games. Although some of our neighboring school districts are not allowing spectators at their events, we are very grateful that Mr. Shukis has allowed spectators to watch our teams at home events throughout the fall season. This has given parents the opportunity to watch their children compete and give some sense of normalcy.
There is a quote from Socrates that I feel sums up athletics for the 2020-2021 school year. “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” The changes made to the sports seasons have been uncomfortable for all involved, but I am confident that we will persevere to have great athletic experiences this school year. I remain hopeful that all our student-athletes and coaches will have the opportunity to participate in their sport this school year. These are unprecedented times, and we all must adjust to the never-ending changes.
I look forward to the day when I can walk through the halls of Marian Central and give every student and faculty member a fist bump, which is my way of showing everyone that I am here for them.
If you are interested in supporting athletics here at Marian Central, please consider joining the Athletic Booster Club. Your involvement is much needed and would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested, please feel free to contact the Booster Club President, John Schwalbach, at schwalby1@gmail.com.
Throughout all this uncertainty, the Athletic Department goal remains the same: to provide an experience through interscholastic athletics that are enjoyable and positive. I will continue to help develop the students at Marian Central for their next journey in life. We are all in this together.
