Akron teachers and staff have been spoiled this past week

We would like to thank Washington County Cattlewomen for the tasty treats they left for us in the office! Also, big thanks to the anonymous Latte Da donor that bought the staff drinks all week! Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Randel, thank you for providing the refreshing beverages and snacks for us! Akron School Board Members thank you for the recognition and appreciation gifts. We love our jobs and it is wonderful to feel appreciated…. THANK YOU ALL!

A wonderful Spring Music Program was presented by our Preschool-4th grades, directed by Mrs. Sue Hellyer!

4th Grade Field Trip

Mrs. Champan and Ms. Hamilton's 4th grade classes visited Coors Field for STEM Day.

This educational event incorporates physics, math, and meteorology into unique science experiments. After the STEM presentation they enjoyed the Rockies Game against the Washington Nationals.

5th Grade Field Trip

On Tuesday, Mrs. Hernandez and Ms. Sampson's classes visited KidsSpace in Westminster. KidSpace provides the resources and structure for students to explore science-related concepts in a space-themed environment.

Ms. Hocheder and her high school government class took a field trip to Denver to visit the Colorado State Capital and Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center. The students were invited down to the Senate floor by Senator Jerry Sonnenberg and down to the House floor by Representative Richard Holtorf. The students also visited the Ralph L. Carr Building and learned some additional things about the judicial branch of government.

Nell Propst Historical Essay and Art Contest

Over the past thirteen years, 25 different schools have had the opportunity to research, write about, draw, and photograph Northeastern Colorado and enter their projects in the Nell Propst Historical Essay and Art Contest. The contest has been popular and many scholarships have been awarded to students from local counties. We had 7 students enter art for the contest this year - Bibiana Davisson won 2nd place and received a $500 scholarship and Mason Weis won honorable mention.

Character Word of the Week - RESOURCEFULNESS

I will …..

Reuse what I can.

Not waste food.

Repair what is broken.

Give away or sell what I do not use.

Middle School Track

Akron held its middle school track meet on Friday, April 29 with seventeen teams attending. The athletes experienced every kind of weather, but we were able to successfully finish the meet.

Good Luck to the Middle School Tracksters at the League meet.

Akron Lady Ram Golfers

The Akron golf team won their own tournament at the Washington County Golf Course on Friday, April 29. Individually the team took the top two spots with Mary Dracon shooting a 91 and Kendall Velder a 92. As a team, they scored 285 to place first. Molly Porteus finished second place in the junior varsity division. Congratulations to our teams and Coach Hocheder!

Go Blue!

Ram Baseball

The Akron Ram baseball team split their doubleheader with Byers on Tuesday night. It was also the last home game of the season for the seniors. Thank you seniors!

The Rams are currently 10-9 on the season and will look to make a run in the post season.

Go Rams!
