MP Middle Messenger
Week 20: 2/5/2021
Happy February!
The MPMS SGA is running a kindness competition for all MPMS students. Check out the above video and this link for more details! The competition runs ALL month long! https://sites.google.com/mpcschools.net/manassasparkmiddlesga/
This week also saw the School Board approve a conditions-based return to learning. Please check you email/this newsletter in the coming weeks, as more information will be coming out with details about any and all changes that are coming as we move from being a 100% remote school to a hybrid in-person and virtual middle school!
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8TH GRADE PARENTS!
Make sure your child has selected their 9th grade classes (see instructions below.) If they do not choose, then courses will be selected for them this summer!
2021-2022 Course Requests for Current 8th Graders!
Course selection for the 2021-2022 school year has been extended to 2/10/21 ! The course selection google forms are open and counselors are available for any questions or concerns.
Please visit the Course Selection Site for more information:
https://sites.google.com/mpcschools.net/2021courseselection/home
If you have any questions, please contact your child's high school counselor:
Ms. Quinones (jasmin.quinones@mpark.net) A-GOM
Mr. Gillespie (bradley.gillespie@mpark.net) GON-PAC
Ms. Watson (cindy.watson@mpark.net) PAD-Z
If course selection forms are not completed by 02/10/21, school counselors will select courses based upon graduation requirements and course availability.
Semester 1 Report Cards!
There is now another option to view your student’s grades at MPES, MPMS and MPHS in the parent portal. After logging in to the parent portal, click on the Report Card button in the left menu. This will provide a Report Card style view of your student’s grades. This is not an official MPCS report card. If you have a need for an official paper report card, please contact your child’s school.
Students of the Month for January!
Each month the teachers of each grade level and electives identify students who represent MPMS well every day. Our students of the month are active participants in class, helpful to peers, respectful, and supportive of everyone being successful in school! Congratulations to our Students of the Month for November!
Our Students of the Month will be mailed a certificate next week. (Unfortunately home visits have been cancelled until COVID numbers improve. If you would like a photo with Dr. Sieloff - save the certificate and we will do the photo in March!)

Picture Makeup/Retake Day is Rescheduled for February 26!!
- Parents who did not order the first time but would like to can go to www.mylifetouch.com and use picture day ID EVTB7Z6C4. If they purchased the first time and did not have their students photo taken, that order will flow to this picture. If parents want a retake, they must bring in the original pictures to have a new package re-entered into the system for this new photo.
- Teachers can get their pictures taken, just come by when they are available on February 2.
- Students must sign up for a time slot using the sign up genius link. Click here to sign up for your photo appointment: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084FABAA2EA3FF2-mpms1
- When entering the school, all must wear a facemask covering their nose and mouth. Your photo appointment should take less than 5 minutes total!
- To all students – these pictures will be used for the yearbook. So, feel free to come and take a student picture for the yearbook. If you like the pictures and want to buy a picture package, you can or if you don’t want to buy the pictures, that’s okay too.
Not going to Picture Day, but still want your photo in the Yearbook? Here is how to submit!
Families can submit a headshot (face and shoulders) instead of using a school photo this year. All submissions must be in before March 15.

MPMS School Counselor Update!
Words of Wisdom from MPMS Students!
This week, our wisdom comes from a seventh grader.
Challenges this year: "This year has been challenging with everything that you see and hear in everyday life. Example: news, rumors, etc."
Words of Wisdom: "Whatever happens in life always has a purpose and even though no one knows what you are going through, life gives you these pushes to make you stronger. So appreciate those pushes life gives you, you will grow!"
Words of Wisdom - How to Participate!
The counselors have created a new page on our canvas titled: Words of Wisdom from Middle Schoolers. If you want to see the post from last week, Check out our page here: Words of Wisdom from Middle Schoolers. https://mpcs.instructure.com/courses/8408/pages/words-of-wisdom-from-middle-schoolers

MPMS Multicultural Night!
DON’T FORGET!!!!
We are at just under a month until we celebrate our annual Multicultural Night! The Counselors and I have been working through ways in which we can make this happen virtually, while still having some fun! I sent out emails a few months back and am here to announce that we will be hosting Multicultural “Night” during the week of March 1st – March 5th. Along with different restaurant participation, we would love to create a video that offers unique creations by our students/family and staff members. This will be shared on Friday, March 5, 2021. We could really use your help getting the word out and would LOVE for you to participate.
Different ideas for flipgrid videos: singing, dancing, cooking your favorite dish / family recipe, show and tell, storytelling, family history, family traditions, cultural celebration or any talent / hobby that you enjoy most! All submissions are welcome and encouraged to allow Multicultural Night to be about togetherness and community. Here is the link for flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/roach0011
*** We are only accepting Videos up until Sunday, February 28, 2021 (11:59pm).
Restaurants that are participating March 1-5:

2. The Bone BBQ – 15% Discount
3. Bella Vita – 10% Discount AND Complimentary hot drink/dessert

Middle School Sports!
Once we get closer to a opening sports season, additional details will be shared. No final decision has been made about rescheduling fall sports to the Spring at this time.
If your child is getting an annual physical with their pediatrician and plans to play a sport this school year, please have your doctor fill out the sports physical form (link below.)
Sports physicals are good for the entire school year, so any completed this fall will still be valid for a potential winter or spring sports season.
