Message from Principal Pease

Hello everyone, I hope you had a wonderful week! It has been busy at DCS. Students were excited to have Health/Wellness with Mr. Valinski for their Special, he will be back next week. We were also able to welcome Mrs. Mack as our Library Media Specialist. Staff and students have been working diligently to establish routines in their classrooms. Staff have begun to conduct the fall assessments to determine where our students are to start the year. This information will help guide instruction both in the whole group and in smaller groups.

Last week, Cornucopia returned to DCS with Grades 1 and 2. It is exciting to see the results of the gardening that took place in the spring.

Thanks so much to the DCS PTO for coordinating the annual fall mum sale! Last week, 200 mums arrived, and as of this writing there are only 4 left! Well done!

Please be sure to follow the Reopening and Recovery Plan protocols for screening at home. This includes taking your child's temperature and to ask the following question:

○ Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms?

■ Fever and chills

■ Cough

■ Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

■ Fatigue

■ Muscle or body aches

■ Headaches

■ New loss of taste or smell

■ Sore throat

■ Congestion or runny nose

■ Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

If the answer is YES, students need to stay home, and parents/guardians need to contact the school nurse to report their child’s symptoms.

Enjoy the weekend, Nicole

DCS students care about everyone and everything!

Many of our students have seen the wonder of the Monarch Caterpillar emerge as a butterfly. While outside the other day, a group of students found a Monarch Butterfly that was unable to fly. They carefully carried the butterfly to the flower garden and set it down in hopes of it surviving. What a sweet group!

Information about the ConVal District's Community Forums

The ConVal School Board, working with the ConVal Administration, is pleased to announce its first ever Community Forum.

The ‘public comment’ periods at the beginning and end of the School Board meetings have been a source of frustration for some in the community. Board meetings are designed to conduct the business of the District and therefore there is limited time for meaningful dialogue between the public and the Board.

We have listened to our community and in our ongoing effort for full transparency we have structured this Community Forum to allow for discussion on community selected topics with questions to and answers from the school board and administration. The Board and Administration look forward to hearing from our nine communities in a constructive and flexible manner.

Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 30 at 7:00 PM to attend our first Community Forum at the Lucy Hurlin Theatre located at the ConVal High school.

More information will follow with details about the forum, and how to participate in a survey to determine forum topics. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with our communities with this opportunity for a more open dialogue.

Please remember to update Pick Up Patrol

One of the aspects of a new school year that can be challenging is the bus routes. It takes time for new drivers and students to get used to the timing of the pick ups and drop offs. Each day has gone a bit more smoothly.

Please help us by updating any changes in drop off or pick up through Pick Up Patrol.

Thank you!

Information about Free Lunch and the cost for milk

Hello all, this school year, if your child orders hot lunch, it is free due to Federal Funding. However, if your child only orders a milk, there is a $.50 charge.

Don't forget to check out the DCS website and Classroom Teacher's sites too!

DCS Gear

For those that do not know, the DCS' mascot is a Raven. We are hoping to be able to provide our new students with Raven t-shirts. Until then, we have a DCS Gear store through which you can order items for your child and family.
