The Eagle's Beak
"Auburn Pride Starts Inside"
October 19, 2018
Dear Auburn Families -
A huge shout out to our very own Aarionna Totty who was selected as the Grand Prize Winner for the Metroparent and Michigan Science Center Virtual Science Camp! We are filled with Auburn pride. Make sure and check out her picture below!
We have a busy week ahead of us. I invite everyone out to Trunk or Treat on Sunday at the Troy Campus Life Christian Church. I will be judging the costume contest and am hopeful to see some Auburn students out for the festivities. Detailed information is at the bottom of the Beak.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we have a group coming in to support the staff and students with recess play. We are finding that our students struggle to play appropriately during outside and inside recess, so we have some consultants coming in to teach them different games to play and how to play appropriately on the playground. This is our effort to help the students understand our expectations, especially the fact that there is absolutely no play fighting allowed. Your reinforcement of expectations at home would be helpful. It would also be helpful if you played board or card games with them or did art projects when they have free time. The more time that they can be engaged with other people and off of the phone and video games, the better. We need to reignite the passion for human interaction and play in our students!
Thursday is conferences and if you haven’t signed up yet, please do so today. The Sign Up Genius links are below.
And last, but definitely not least, we will be celebrating Halloween next Friday, October 26th. Please see below for party and parade times as well as costume guidelines.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend,
Jodie Middleton
Principal

Halloween Guidelines
Our Halloween festivities will be as follows on Friday, October 26th:
1:30-2:15 Grades K-2
2:15-2:30 Parade
2:30-3:15 Grades 3-5
Students are welcome to bring their costumes to school. Costumes should be able to be put on OVER your child's school clothes. Please keep in mind the following building guidelines for costumes at school:
- We ask that children NOT wear costumes depicting violence or violent acts. This includes fake blood, gore or imagery that would not be "G rated".
- We will also be restricting masks during the parade to avoid any potential tripping hazards.
- School policy prohibits any and all toy guns, knives, swords or weapons.
Please reserve elaborate costumes, frightening masks, face paint and make-up for trick or treating as these things can create a school disruption.
Halloween is an exciting time. Let's all help to make sure it is a safe and positive experience for the children while at school. Thank you for your support with these guidelines.
Please Note: Children who do not participate in Halloween activities will be offered an alternate option during the Halloween celebrations.
Positivity Project - P2
This week our character strength was integrity; you are honest and you speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely. We explored many activities, games, books, and videos that demonstrated the importance of integrity, as well as the effects of not having integrity on yourself and the others around you.
