Alan Turing is widely-considered the founder of modern computing. After helping decode Germany's Enigma machines during WW2, Turing worked at Manchester University. He wrote pioneering papers on artificial intelligence and programming theory. He committed suicide in 1954, following a conviction over a relationship with another man.
