Update HB 114
There has been a significant change in the law that directly impacts our school district’s approach to addressing e-cigarette usage on school premises. Recently, the Texas legislature passed a new law, House Bill 114, that requires school districts to implement mandatory Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) placement for students found in possession of, using, selling, giving, or delivering e-cigarettes on school grounds or at a school-related event.
Effective September 1, our school district will be enforcing this new state law, and any student violating the new law related to e-cigarettes will be subject to a DAEP placement. Our primary goal is to ensure the well-being and academic success of all students. By enforcing the DAEP placement for e-cigarette violations, this law aims to discourage the use of harmful substances and create a safer environment that supports the overall health and development of our students.
As we navigate this new legal requirement, we value your partnership and input as parents and guardians. If you need assistance in talking to your child about the dangers of vaping, or your child is in need of support to quit vaping, the linked resources provided by the Anti-Vaping Truth Initiative are available.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students.

Juniors!
The Common Data Set (CDS) is an amazing resource for students looking to apply to colleges and universities. Though it was originally designed to improve the quality and accuracy of higher education institutions' information, it has become a hidden gem for applicants. The CDS provides insight into what colleges and universities are searching for in an applicant.
If you're an underclassman, start your research EARLY! Find out what your dream school is looking for and work hard to achieve it. This will undoubtedly increase your chances of being accepted.
To locate the CDS for your school, Google the name of the college followed by "Common Data Set." For instance, if you're interested in LSU, you can search "LSU Common Data Set." Once you've accessed the CDS, head to section C7 to find the necessary information.
