Little Prairie Primary School
December 2023
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Little Prairie families,
December is here and the Holidays are upon us. This is an exciting time for students, both in and out of school. We will work hard here at Little Prairie to maintain consistency in expectation of student
behavior, as December can be a challenging time for little ones. We will continue to reteach and remind your children of the importance of displaying behaviors that are respectful, responsible, safe, and caring.
The last day of first trimester was Thursday, November 30th . As we enter our second trimester, please note that your child’s first trimester report card will be posted in Skyward Family Access and will be available to you on December 5th in the afternoon.
Lastly, at this special time of year, it is important to take some time to be thankful for what we have. I am thankful for our little learners, supportive families, and caring school staff. Thanks for all you do and have a wonderful Holiday season.
Focused on growth for all students,
Lindsey Harris, Principal
December's PBIS theme is SELF-CONTROL!
*We had 13 returned bucket drops during the 1st trimester … keep up the bucket-filling at home and in the community! A big thanks to Marcus Theatres: Student Motivation Program for donating two-for-one movie passes (with complimentary soft drinks). When students return “bucket filling drops” for demonstrating bucket-filling behavior at home and in the community they will receive one of these movie passes (while supplies last). Additional copies of the “bucket filling drops” can be found here.
**Leon on the Shelf (Little Prairie's version of "Elf on the Shelf") will be traveling to all the classrooms during the month of December as a reminder to make "PAWSitive" choices during all the holiday excitement.

The PTO Prompt
Winter Gear
All students need a coat, hat, snow pants, boots & gloves to play outside at recess!
Please make sure there is an extra outfit (including socks!) at school in the event your child gets wet and needs to change.
Happy Holidays!
December 25 - January 2nd
Counselor's Corner
Dear Families,
During the months of December-February, 4K-2nd grade students will be receiving lessons
about different aspects of personal safety.
Household items (cleaning chemicals and medications)
Gun safety (“Stop, don’t touch, run away, tell a grown-up”)
Safe and unsafe touch
This curriculum teaches children simple safety rules as well as strategies for solving everyday
problems. The goal is to teach children how to make choices that will keep them safe from
items in the home or attempts at enticement, physical and sexual abuse, and other forms of
victimization. We want kids to feel comfortable getting help for any kind of problem they may
have.
Below are some of the Little Prairie objectives covered by our personal safety lessons:
1. Students will demonstrate knowledge to not touch household items that may be dangerous.
2. Students will demonstrate knowledge that “nothing is so awful that you cannot talk
about it” and “everyone deserves to feel and be safe.”
3. Students will be able to distinguish between comfortable/safe and
uncomfortable/unsafe touches.
4. Students will understand the difference between safe and unsafe secrets.
5. Students will demonstrate knowledge of what to do if someone is unsafe or hurtful.
6. Students will recognize the importance of making safe choices with regards to how
they treat others.
We believe that this curriculum can make a contribution toward the safety of children in
community, and I encourage you to discuss our lessons with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at hamchr@easttroy.k12.wi.us or call (262) 642-6730 x2251.
Thanks for your involvement in this important unit.
Sincerely,
Christine M. Hamele, MS, NCC, CTRS
