Portfolio Preview - A Celebration of Student Work

Within the next few weeks, join your child as he/she gives you a guided tour of the student portfolio that you will discuss with the teacher at Portfolio Conferences. This is a special time for you and your child to share the work you find inside the portfolio, to discuss your child’s perceptions of the progress made throughout the year, and to celebrate the accomplishments you see. Your student will also explain the use of rubrics and his/her own self-reflections during the preview.

Please review your child’s portfolio within the time frame given by your child’s teacher and enjoy the opportunity to hear your child talk about the collection of work. There will be a reflection sheet for you and your child to fill out together. The information from this sheet will help your child’s teacher to prepare for the actual conference.

At portfolio conferences, you and your child’s teacher can use each minute of the conference productively because you will have already reflected upon the material and set goals based on your child’s portfolio.

Thank you for taking the time to celebrate the growth that your child has made over the past year.

Wing Tips

A big thank you to Brittany Case and Kayla Delise for selling water and pretzels at the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. These girls gave up their Friday night to help us break even on the event! Great citizenship, ladies!

We are so thankful for our former Soaring Eagles, Luke Fehrman and Chuck Ross, who came out Friday night to referee the 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. They were constantly on the go for three hours! We tip our wings to you, fellas!

Eagle's Pride

Lina Hofmann swam at the YMCA State meet this past weekend held at Penn State University. She placed 12th in girls 9-10 year old 100 yard breast stroke event. Her girls 200 yard freestyle relay placed 11th. This was the first team from CBFYMCA to go to a State meet!

From Our 6th Grade Ambassadors

"I would love to be a 2014-15 ambassador for many reasons. I would love to help kindergarteners find their way around the school because the school is so big and new for them. ... I also would want to help new students because I know from moving here last year that it's hard to leave your friends and teachers, and I want to be there for them so they could feel more comfortable about their new school. I would want to do that because I want to give back, like when the other 6th grade ambassadors helped me getting used to my school.

The first welcome day is always my favorite. I love walking into school on the first day, feeling so excited, and I want other kids to feel the same way. I want student to be more excited than nervous on the first day of school. The first day of school is when you make your first impression on teachers, and I believe if you're happy, your attitude will be better.
The Back To School picnic is always amazing. I love going to the picnic for dinner and water ice, and to spend more time with my family and friends. The Doyle picnic is always a special night, and you create so many memories.

I'm so proud to be a soaring eagle because this school is so fun, like when the Russian dancers came to school. or like when we did the Inquiry project in 5th grade. Another reason why this school is something to be proud of is because of their teachers and principal. This school is truly marvelous."
