R2 Innovates - Consider getting involved in this awesome crowdsourcing!
R2 Innovates has a new, exciting endeavor to crowdsource ideas from throughout our district to surface promising practices that can be implemented in Richland Two.
The process is simple: Login to our site at http://richland2.brightidea.com to get started. View our Evolving Professional Learning initiative and submit your ideas. Ideas are evaluated by a sponsoring team and winning ideas are selected for implementation.
In our first collaboration for 2018, R2 Innovates is partnering with Teaching and Learning and Instructional Technology teams to find solutions for evolving professional learning and growing the talent of each person in our organization. As lifelong learners, we want inspiring learning experiences so that we can bring our passion for learning back to our students and our work. We want to generate many new ideas for professional learning and put the ideas into action!
We’d love your support in launching this project with our teachers and staff members! Our goal is to have 5-10 (or more!) people from each school participate, particularly those who are interested in developing new professional learning experiences.
Please spread the word and complete our sign-up link so that we can send out invites to events and keep in touch about the timeline. We're looking forward to having strong participation from your school, and we're excited about the new ideas and strategies that will come from this project!
What does participation look like?
Commit to submitting a solution (or more than one solution) in the first phase of the project, called Ideation, and then building it out further in the Evaluation phase. You also have the option to participate in a face-to-face kick-off/brainstorming event and a face-to-face prototyping event. The in-person events will be short, fun and collaborative! Further details are listed below:
Phase one: Ideation:
When: Feb. 28-March 21
What: Post a contribution during the Ideate phase; participate in the event kick-off on Feb. 28 from 4:30-5:30 at R2 Innovates (optional)
Phase two: Evaluation:
When: Mar.21-March 28
What: Evaluation of ideas begins; attend an in-person prototyping event on March 21 to build out your idea (optional)
Phase three: Selection
When: March 28-April 9
What: Top ideas will be announced when we return from spring break.
Phase four: Ongoing - Piloting of ideas!
Why participate?
Individuals and teams will have the opportunity to have ideas implemented and learn new methods to support your practice. Top contributors will also have the opportunity to apply for funding for a professional development experience of their choosing.
Do we have to come up with new ideas to share?
Staff members may submit ideas they’re already working on or design a new idea.
Teams?
Staff members can work collaboratively in teams or, if it’s easier, they can approach this project on an individual basis.
REMINDERS ABOUT TECH SECURITY
Here are some hints to help:
1. Don’t use your name or birthday as your password.
2. Change your passwords on a regular basis.
3. Memorize passwords.
4. Don’t write down your password, and then keep it on, under or near your laptop or other device.
There are several SECURE APPS for your phone that will keep your accounts secure.
5. Don’t share your passwords in an email, text, or on any Social Media site.
6. Don’t walk away from your device with any open windows or exposed for anyone to access.
7. Never OPEN STRANGE emails. If you don’t know who sent it, and know that they are a trusted source, do not open the email. It may contain a virus that could harm your computer and/or your network.
8. Sign OUT of accounts when you are finished using the site or tools. This is especially important if you share your device with students throughout the school day.
9. When sharing a document or presentation through a learning platform (Google, etc.) be careful not to give editing rights to the recipients unless you are sure that’s what you want to do. (It is a good idea to make a copy and share the Copy, so as to maintain the integrity of the original.)
10. Logging out and Closing Out are very different. LOG OUT!
I like this tech analogy: If you go to a mall, you always lock your car doors before going inside. You would never just leave your car doors wide open, would you? Do the same with your accounts online…sign or log out, close down and lock those “doors.”

Reminders from our district math leads:
Math Friends!
February is here. We’re past the 100th Day of School and well into Quarter 3. It’s the time of year to check your pacing carefully. It is a good idea to determine how many days of instruction you have until your grade level gives MAP. We have heard lots of positive comments on how Math 4 Today has helped so much with pre-teaching and continually reviewing skills. This week is the 23rd week of school just to give you a ballpark idea of where you would be in Math 4 Today is you have done one every week.
Please let Elizabeth or I know if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for everything you do for your students!
Here is the link to the math newsletter to provide even more reminders for each grade level to include pacing guides.
