Word for the Warrior
#firstdaysofschool
#teachergoals
The beginning of the year is full of HOPE for all of us! Kids come to school hoping above all (whether they admit it or not) that they will be accepted. Students come to school with excitement, but also with anxiety, wondering whether or not they will experience success. Time spent getting to know children anew and afresh is NEVER wasted time. Take time this week enjoying WHY you became a teacher. Take time to connect with your students. Take time to encourage. Take time to set the stage for a successful year for everyone!
The video below is a testimony to how powerful our vision can be! Take a few minutes to watch and reflect as we begin a year! Let's ALL challenge ourselves to take time to see each child for who they really are authentically!
Connection is why we were created! Through connection, comes the ability to take risks and grow and develop!
Have a GREAT first week! Be blessed as you are a blessing!
Proud to be a Warrior,
Holly

BUSES
Please see below and from this, please help us to communicate with students that wearing a seatbelt is not an option on the school but and it will not be an argument. They will wear a seatbelt if they choose to ride a bus or risk being kicked off the bus.
Starting this year, the state transportation folks are going to monitor bus videos at times to check and see if drivers are walking the bus aisles asking all students to buckle up and then they are to write referrals for students who will not buckle. The state transportation people also claim they will follow up with schools regarding action taken by schools.
As you can imagine, this will likely result in an increase in bus referrals related to seat belts. In my conversation with Tommy, I encouraged a partnership with the drivers, our transportation office, parents, students, and the school. We are open to suggestions on how to best communicate the importance of wearing seat belts to students and their families.
Thanks,
Jim

Entering An Absence
* Skyward: PROFESSIONAL LEAVE: Include the following in the DESCRIPTION: the name and location of the event you are attending, the estimated cost (i.e., $ amount or 0 cost) and who is responsible for the cost (i.e., Dr. Flora, Athletics, Administrator's name at ASC, etc.). All of this information MUST be included or it will be returned to you to include for approval. Professional Leave-KCS Sponsored: KCS is conducting the event no matter where it may be held. Professional Leave-KCS Non-Sponsored: Someone outside of KCS is conducting the event, even when it is held within a KCS location.
COACHING: Use this in Skyward if you are taking athletes with you to compete. If you are going to a coaches meeting, you use Professional Leave in Skyward.
FIELD TRIP: Use this if you are taking students to a presentation, exhibit, etc, not a Professional Leave.
HOURS: For Skyward purposes, Teachers' hours are 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., Support Staff's hours vary by position, and Administrators' hours are 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
SELECT EMPLOYEES: Add Holly Flora, Nick Roebke and Erika Williams to added individuals as you report your absence.
* Requesting a Substitute: After entering your absence in Skyward, please go to SFE (Smart Find Express/eSchool Solutions) and enter your absence for a substitute, if needed. Log in using an assigned User ID/Password. If you do not have these, contact Tabitha Graham at x2116. Part-time support staff do not need to request a substitute.
CREATE ABSENCE in SmartFind Express: Include absence reason, if a substitute is required, start and end dates if more than one day, and your start/end times for each day absent. This must correspond with your Skyward entry. If you would like to specify a substitute, the system will contact that individual first for availability. If you pre-arrange with a substitute for an absence, please enter it as "No sub Needed" and let Erika Williams know and she will enter the substitute for you. Please include all instructions for the sub in the designated box, even if it is to direct the substitute to your sub folder and classroom instructions.
Emergency Sub Folders and Plans
Everyone knows that we are experiencing a sub shortage. When quality plans are not left, this is a large deterrent for subs. They will not come back if they are left without quality plans. This has occurred at times not just with subs but even with teachers subbing for other teachers in the building.
Creating emergency sub plans will assist with this. We know there are times when unexpected absences occur. By being proactive and prepared, you AND the sub will be left in a far better place should you have to be out unexpectedly.
Please turn in contents of emergency sub folders within the first two weeks of school to Erika. She will keep an alphabetized crate with folders for each of you inside.
Volunteers:
Contact Erika Williams for a Volunteer Agreement form if you have someone who is assisting with your class, guest speakers, field trips, coaching, school functions, etc. Give Erika the number of volunteer hours at the end of each month as these are reported to the ASC.
