- Please leave any item you need to drop off for your student, on the table in the foyer. Do not come into the building. There is tape and a marker in the foyer for you to put a name on the item if you haven't already. We will collect the items and distribute them to students.
- Please contact the school office with questions or concerns, if possible, before stopping in. We are happy to help you schedule a face-to-face appointment or arrange for a phone conversation. You can also email the office at NHIOffice@oasd.org.

7th & 8th Grade Participation in Athletics & Clubs & the OASD Drug Testing Policy
When families register their child for a club or sport, part of the registration process is for both parent/guardian and student electronically sign the Random Drug Testing Policy consent form. Here are links to the policy and frequently asked questions. Thank you for supporting a safer learning environment within our schools and establishing a stronger culture of drug disapproval within the school community.
Character Dare
It is so exciting to watch kindness spread in our hallways as students work on their character dares and take the time to be intentional in the way they interact with one another. Please keep up the great work at home, encouraging students to try their weekly dare at school, and working on family dares when you can! Character Strong curriculum encourages individuals and families to think and talk about why they didn’t take on a certain dare with just as much thought as they put into completed dares. Was the dare too challenging? Were you too busy? Did you forget? We are reminded by this curriculum that we need to be just as intentional with making time for acts of kindness as we do with any other aspect of our lives, but to also give ourselves grace. We’re all human, and some dares will be more in our comfort zones to complete than others!
As always, please post any pictures or write ups of your experience working on dares to our twitter @NHI_Wolves, or to our Nature Hill Intermediate PTO page. You can also send your picture or description to our Dean of Students, Kelly Boldt, at boldtk@oasd.org.
Current Dares: Week of 9/14-9/18
Student Dare: “Becoming Better.” Ask three people over the next few days what’s one way you could be (your ‘being’ word) to them today. The conversation or message might sound like this: “Hey grandma, what’s one way I could be kind to you today?” Try to reach out to three different
people in your life like a friend, a family member, and a teacher/coach. See if you can follow through on their feedback and put your word into action based on what you learn!
Family Dare: “Family Bucket List.” Sit together as a family and see if you can brainstorm a list of 25 things you want to do together this year. Get creative and collaborative! Make sure the items range from totally doable in a day to something that may seem silly or impossible. Work to check things off each month until you make your next list!
Upcoming Dares: Week of 9/21-9/25
Student Dare:”It’s Fair to Care.” Think about one time in the past week where you saw someone else experience a big emotion (joy, sadness, anger, excitement). Try to write down or think about three things they MIGHT care about that could cause that emotion.
It’s easy to just spend our lives reacting to what people are feeling. It’s much harder to understand WHY people feel the way they feel. Respect is about learning to pay attention and listen, so we can act out of empathy instead of out of emotion.
Family Dare: “Love Language.” Ask each family member how they prefer to receive kindness and love from others in the family.
Some people prefer words of affirmation or acts of service, whereas others may prefer a hug each day. Post the list of people’s preferences in a place everyone will see and be reminded.
Breakfast and Lunch at OASD
Free Student Lunches
On Monday, August 31, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service unexpectedly announced the extension of their free student meals program that began during the summer. As a result, student breakfast and lunch will be free on the days that students are learning at school face-to-face, and the days that students are learning virtually. This free meal program will continue until the USDA confirms that funding is no longer available or until December 31, 2020, whichever comes first.
Please note – at OHS and the Intermediate Schools, a free meal option will be available, but ala carte and snack items will also be available for purchase. The free lunch option must include either a fruit or a vegetable. When this free meal program ends, families will be charged for meals through their child’s Skyward Family Access account based on their student meal status, whether free, reduced or standard price.
The OASD will continue to offer a free and reduced meal program for families after these free meals end. Visit www.oasd.org/FoodService for information and applications.
Students can also order meals on their virtual learning days. Information on the ordering process is also available at www.oasd.org/FoodService.
