The Computer Guide
The first thinking machine
Alan Turing
Alan Turing was a clever man who dreamed and imagined a thinking machine, he called it the imagination machine. It read symbols and processed them using tables of functions. Then it was enhanced to output symbols aswell. Then WWII came and he then worked on decoding machines. He managed to crack the German enigma code. The war ended and he started working on artificial intelligence. He beleived that one day these machines could help with everyday life.
What is a computer
A computer is basically an adding machine that counts 1s and 0s. This all happens in the CPU (the central proccessing unit). Computers are everywhere cars, trains and aeroplanes all have computers in them
Parts of a computer
CPU
(Central Processing Unit) this is where all the counting is done.
Printer
This is a type of output which uses the processed storage to print texts on paper
Keyboard
This is a type of input. An input allows you to give information to the computer.
Touch Screen
Another more sophisticated input.
RAM
Stands for random access memory. Basically what it is is storage.
Optical Drive
Another type of input, you put a disc in and the computer runs it.
Hardrive
This stores all the data ready for the cpu to process it.
Monitor
Showsprocessed information on the screen
Motherboard
Everything connects to this one circuitry board. Everything connects through this.
